my mate cant deliver it as his trailer is too far away from mine for it to be of any use

but no worries matey, just gimme a shout whenever

Still very tempted mate, just trying to find a kind friend to collect it with me lol as i have no towbar or trailer or car atm!

Just out of interest what sus and brakes can be used from later polos on the mk1?

you can use VWII Calipers from a Mk1 Golf or Polo G40 for Vented 239mm Discs, or run VW 256mm brakes with G60 Calipers & Audi Carriers, or the same 256mm conversion using vauxhall 16v calipers and carriers.

Suspensionwise you have the use of any of the lowering kits of coilovers for the mk1-3 polo range. The steering arms used are the same as the Mk2-3 polos although you will have to change the steering rack to do this, I'm supplying the car with a G40 steering rack and mk3 steering arms. As the engine is out now ill probably get round to fitting it soon, next week start of possibly

sweet, really trying my hardest to sort out getting it mate, just was asking the questions so i can plan ahead for the conversion lol. I like to know what i can play with.

So I'm guessing as the mk3 engines fit in the 16v should be pretty straight forward.

The plan is to get the engine running on bike carb's so i can leave most of the ecu etc. out.

Just wanted to know about sus etc. as if I'm putting more power in it i want a good sus and brake setup lol.

Mates asking around atm to see if anyone can come get it. If not ill try the Ebay firms.

guy called mathew on here is doing an afh conversion into a mk1 polo, pretty simple, and hes got a project thread on teh mk1polo.com site with pics of everything he got up to, think he used a gt gearbox, and vwii calipers for g40 spec brakes

gimme a bell if you want a chat tho dude =]

peace out

Sweet dude, signed up on there now. That should save me a hell of alot of time in research if i can get chatting to that guy!

Shame someones beaten me to it, but I'm still going for it! lol

Engine looks sweet in that little bay.

cool, sweet to see someone so keen about a little mk1 polo, cos they are the dogs bollocks, I'm thinking of doing an afh conversion in my mk2 coupe in the future so itll be cool to see yours progress, shame about the damage the car looked tidy

Yea was gutted about my car, but meh!

Onwards and upwards lol, can't get the mk1 fast enough tbh. Just want the insurers to come confirm it is a write off and give me my cheque! lol

Hoping to be able to get the engine in by the summer, just gotta work out what needs welding and moving lol.

Something to get my hands dirty with though :p

Woohoo, Yeh i hear your pain about insurers taking their time and then quibbling over paying out! Gahh!

Engine wise nothing should need welding unless your are planning on making your own inlet manifold up for the carbs.

There is a few spots on the car that could do with welding while its off the road, it would probably pass another mot with no problems and i think the current one runs out in may. But if your planning a wee project then it could do with those points addressing, namely a few holes peppered on the front wings, and dotted around the rear arches. There is a small knock in the rear valance on the drivers side and the boot has seen a knock from something near the bootlock, its not hit any other of the panels on the car, so a replacement bootlid would be the best bet but it is repairable if you can weld, and would be best lead loaded over filler.

I wish i had the time to do a resto on this properly, but at the moment I've got to finish a few outstanding jobs on the coupe s and get the lupolo up and running, blat that about for a bit before taking it off the road for a full strip down, weldathon and then repaint

roll on spring and summer for less baltic conditions, working in the summer is a pleasure you can happily be working till 12-1 in the night without your nipples turning into bullets and your balls shrivelling up

What so i don't have to worry about engine mounts?

I was under the impression that i would need to get new engine mounts in place for the valver to go in....

i can't weld myself but have a few mates that can plus ill try and learn a bit as the project goes on, Ill probably just aim to get the engine bay tidy and get the engine in and working and then move onto the bodywork etc, itll be my second car for a while as while i do this I'm planning on getting a volvo for a bit of sideways fun lol

That well give me plenty of chances to get it off the road as and when i feel to get thigs done. Budget is the main thing tbh lol so it will be done as and when means allow.

still asking around for someone to take it from you...once i know how much I'm getting from the insurers its just a case of getting a volvo or daily or what ever then the rest of the money is going on the mk1

I'm pretty sure you can use the gt box which means the front and rear gearbox mounts are the same, you can use a 3f (GT or any mk3 engine mount), but only 2 of the 3 holes fit into the block, so you need to create a metal plate to sit behind which locates through the two holes, and uses another one futher down the block, that stops the rotational forces on it, you can use a mk3 alternator with the mk4 alternator pulley so you can use the ribbed belt

you could uprate all the engine mounts to polybushed items which would probably be a good starting point =]

Sweet thats just made my life a whole load easier lol.

Yea i was thinking of polybushing stuff, just gotta source the parts....

but thats well cheered me up lol
