1st black unknown connector is a feed for the Heated washer jets yay! go get a set u know you want to. then just earth the other wire out them to the T shaped white earth block under the dash ] adn thats it wired up as vw intended.

2nd brown unknown one is the extra interior switch dimmer wire so if you have leccy windows or added any switches of gauges wire back to here so they all dim down together and look cool as fuck, not miss matched as fuck as u usually see.

3rd one the brown and 2 blacks is just the front speeker loom out the back of the stereo then out to the 2 speekers. if you have a four speeker loom bin this one, or if you dont ahva 4 speeker loom get a 4 feed one ( brown out the scrap yard) and solder it up to the original wires then, the 4 new ones feed the back speekers.

i dont at the moment jake work re did my computer and they deleted ETKA think its about £50-60 as ross looked at getting one a while back. it goes throgh the hole top left of the bulkhead where the dim dip wiring goes so would fit it first before fitting the dash as you cant get to it once the dash is back in. its the same loom for mk2s and mk3s.

Testing the loom this weekend make sure its all ok and then installing a new alarm system thats arrived today this should get interesting :)

Heated washers in and plumbed up just got to terminate the black and brown wires going to try to order connector and crimp through work for free :) and bang a receptacle on the brown which I'm presuming is the earth as in this Richard?

Yeah jake spot on.

Wee short connector out the back of the fusebox is the feed. Then earth (brown) goes into the earth block (6pin white block 2 on the bottom 4 on the top) under the dash, think only 2 earths go in it in standard form. Genuine loom adds in an extra feed to replace the one you use - so u can power more stuff but this isn't really needed.

Vw rape you for connectors and the electrical section of etka is weird.

After spotted a rusty patch



I've decided that while doing wiring/ dash and new alarm then heated washers then central locking then rust then the central locking cable was getting caught in the door i had to put/ do things in order to get on.

doors off drill out for cl cable
sort rust door cards on alarm / wiring
dash back in

anyway i've managed to sort out wiring or i'm about to i need to do the rust next but its too cold to spray.

this is where the cable goes through but will not retract or slide without getting caught and damaging the insulation which will just end up like the old alarm/cable/ cl

Made a little gearbox stand to hold it on end up wire brush/ clean and spray on as its going body coloured but wondering if to split it and freshly seal it before spraying? any views on this? also thinking of changing my boost pipes for black ones and keep the engine bay polished/black and body coloured.

Right slight update

I bought green glass unetched vw stamped from another g40 well conversion :) This is where my issues began

I also purchased some g40 showroom posters to put up in my garage, a pic of one

What i thought would be a quick change over started me off with a few issues delaying other jobs

This is my issue anal but never the less

I have 2 types of quarters 2 types of bases and 2 types of mirrors

& the two types of mirrors

I couldnt work out if something had shrunk over time or snapped but the quarter is pushed right up etc so ordered some new bases from vw and hopefully they will be the right length but will have to modify them to fit the 3 pin mirrors as i only have one rough 2 pin mirror.

I've also removed a piece of surface rust above the hinge on the drivers door

Some more better condition door cards, I'm ordering all new screws bolts etc for door furniture and fixings

I've been collecting random parts at the moment but as i'm trying to sort a slight issue :) with my A4 daily i've not had much time with work etc to do that much at the moment :)

All Green Glass in and none broken :)

Put one door card and furniture back on after choosing all the nicest parts ( as i have a few sets ) doing the other tonight, really slow progress but i'm mad busy, trying to pass my bike test, working away alot and getting a daily sorted as people on ebay dont turn up once they have bought your car and its doing my head in.

Put some oil in through the plugs and letting that get through then next is to get her running before wiring in the alarm properly and finish off interior parts.

I will have a green tint screen for sale as I have a spare genuine unetched more info / condition on request.

I'll update when I can put on got the net at work atm.

Small update:-

Cleaned engine and scrubbed battery tray back to paint colour as was covered in grease, put battery back in to start up to check all is well before wiring in the new alarm, but i've got no spark and the only thing i can get it to is where i had a problem with the 3 way connector on the coil pack so i'm going to source new seals, crimps and connector and re make off next job.

Can anyone find these part number off etka for me ? no worries if not :)

Also looking a lowering my new daily (another merc)

That's about it unfortunately although i have now fully carpeted my garage so at least i can get in there this winter and get at least something's done!

Finally found a crimp to fit today at work so i've spent 10 mins tonight re doing the connector i've been needing to do for ages so I can get it started on sunday :)

Only problem is now I keep finding more that look on the way out :( so i'll have to do them aswell now.....

Minor update I know :)

-Took the roof lining off from the boot last night and replaced the roof mounted aerial as the seal has gone,

now i'm after a good to mint boot seal to put back on after sticking back the headlining.

Not too much is happening but i've just been replacing small clips and screws etc stuck back the headlining, cleaned and fitted new boot seal.

Also purchased a new daily VW i'll post a pic up soon :)

I re taped the loom the other week ready to go back in but abit of a boring pic :) But i'll try mate :) , Only Polo Show & Tatton Park for me this year now.

A while since an update... So my mate took me out in a spanking Golf R as I've not been in anything quick or exciting for a while got me all hyped up so spent a few hours in the garage on the polo on Sunday, few pics;

After abit more work I started putting the loom back in to get length on wires for the alarm and came across these two holes drill through a skin by someone? nothing was removed by me from there ?

Perfect for the alarm?

Not sure if this will fowl the dash tho?

Also been replacing a few other OEM parts with new ones and collected a few bits hopefully will crack on from Jan.

I'll do abit more now until xmas :)

I've been doing quite a few bits on my daily Caddy as well :)

Today, 8 Years after becoming a CP member, I've become a Mod, so I thought one of my first jobs would be to tidy my build thread up even though there is lack of progress.

Every other month at a minimum I carry out the following;

-Give her a dust off

-Top up the tyres and jack up/ rotate the wheels not to get flat spots in the tyres

-Drain some oil and put it through the top

-Drain some oil, take out the spark plugs and put it in then usually about a week later give it a turn by hand

Just keeping it going bit by bit while progress has slowed and I'm doing my HND in Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering.

Since starting Uni progress has slowed but then increased, well slightly.

I was asked to sell one of my ATV gear boxes about 8 weeks back, so I thought it would be a good idea to clean and polish up my spare rebuilt box, new oil, new plugs and put it into the car.

Currently doing that but now need to re-grease my steering rack and re align my arb after finishing. I can then continue with the interior.

Progress is slow as ever but every little helps. next will be the standard winter checks, engine turn over, drop oil through the plugs etc etc

Slow progress is still progress Jake. No point rushing things. Take your time, do it once and do it right!

Recent purchases & progress include;

-256mm VAG brake setup all new or fully refurbished, calipers, carriers, discs, pads etc

-SFS silicone coolant set ( CP discount, awesome company give them a call!)

-SFS silicone pipes for boost return mod, boost pipe set

-All new stainless Jubilee clips

-NOS washer fluid bottle

-New header tank ( CP discount from VW Heritage)

-New Black plastic G11/G12 cap for on header tank (Ebay)
