The Dirrtbox - Polo G40

Good luck, dont let it die! You may as well keep it, as you will end up buying another one day. And when you get it fixed you know it will be good

Hard decision, do you cut your losses and be done with it, or plough ever more money into it.. if it were mine and i had space for it i'd keep it (even just for parts perhaps), but then I do have a mk2 fetish.

In terms of getting your monies back, unfortunately the sad truth is that it'll probably make more in parts

My spare PY lumps in many pieces at the mo. Iv written out a list of seals, gaskets, bolts etc (everything bar bottom end shells) that I'm gonna need for a re-build, i'll let you know the ouch total once my mates got me a quote!

I'd rather see it broke than someone else driving it anyway. In fact I'd stand and watch the shell be crushed into a square than see someone else have it :? How bitter am I haha, if I can't have it then I don't want anyone else too! I can't have anyone else living my G40 dream

 Please do! Fingers crossed for you!

Well I got results back :?

1, 2 and 4 cylinders are fine and fuck all in 3! Looking at rings or hole in piston, but to find out for deff, head needs to come off! But he reckons a couple of hours work, so that's £90! Apparently I have c*nt written on my forehead because I have a pussy, don't think so sunshine!

That's a big family fortunes errgghh urrgghh!

X

I can take it away from him now for free and move it on to my mate, who's also a very good specialist! He's been saving my ass a lot recently with all my cars and he lives down the road from me, so it's proper awesomeness! He owes me some wonger too when I sold my life away last month, so I could be cutting a good deal here.

Looking at a fucked piston and if I'm lucky (not me haha proper jokes) a bent valve. My mates gathering me some prices together now for worst case and every other case so I can decide what I wanna do, we shall move from there once head is off and we now 100%

PhilJ - Do you have any bottom ends, if so how much?

PhilJ/Pete - Do you have any pistons, if so, how much

Please PM me, thank you :smirk:

shittles mate, at least you may be onto a solution now though ?

keep yer chin up and hopefully it isnt the worst case scenario and your friend can fix it :)

want me to send you a four-leaf clover ?

good luck!

might just be head gasket... or sticky valve - whip the head off and find out.

never heard a holed piston - they normally melt.

Sorry i dont have one!!!

Get this sorted Dirt!!!!!!!

Giving up and moving on is for losers, end of 8-)

Let's hope I can sell this Derby, survive this month and then start fixing the Dirrtbox

Got 2 spare G40 Engines up here, one on 80k, the other on 10k after a full rebuild :-D

Let me know...

Also, before you, or someone else puts it back together I'd spend some cash investigating the cause of this, be it a dodgy injector or weak fuel pumps.

Cheers

Yoof

Give me figuresss, no point selling without prices Yoofy baby. Drop me a PM

Yeah man, we already on that and exhaust fail too I reckon not enough back pressure hasn't helped something somewhere... The list of things I need to fix is rolling out at me and I haven't got another £5k in my wallet

p.s Empty your inbox :-p

Thanks Pete, amazing as always

Quote from my post for help on Club G40

Afternoon Gentleman

OK so I've melted a piston on the G and the head has completely eroded away and needs welding and mending… 2 plugs are absolutely fubared like they’ve been raped

Just to re cap, I changed the sparks back to one pins and provided it with a new lambda and blue sensor, this was then running sweeter than ever before, 3 hours later… Oil spat out the dipstick!

It has definitely been under fuelling and running lean. I need to double check the history when I get home to find out what exactly was rebuilt at 113k

What causes am I looking at here?

Weak fuel pumps and dodgy injectors?

Could you tell me please what the standard size of a piston is? Sorry, I did try the search button with fail - 75.485mm?

Is there anything else you know off, what we can try, look for and investigate?

All help, thoughts, personal experiences and opinions muchly appreciated as always.

Thank you

Laura

Good news!

I got some good luck for once :? but I'm not holding my breathe, I always expect the worse with me and this car  There are no marking on the bores so replacing the piston for now is gonna do the job

I don't have the money to do anything else yet, so boring it out will have to wait until after Christmas where I shall be starting a new G fund and putting money by for lots of things. It's a long process but if the G's running whilst I'm saving, I'm happy :smirk:

My old G guy (that I won't be using again) didn't put the Lambda sensor in properly, Matt was able to unscrew it with his fingers, should it be like that? :doubt: Could that have caused the melt from wrong readings? The sensor itself is fine though and not damaged!

Everything else is being checked...

Right, where's the best place for me to source a 75.5mm standard piston (.5 oversize and not forged as it wont match the rest!) and how much should I be paying for one?

Deverstated about the Dirtbox, Is the melted piston the only problem then? Anything else that needs rebuilding then?

It sounds like you have been chasing your tale along time with this car, its as though once youve changed and uprated one part , its overloaded another untill its ended up fucking a piston up.

Just think laura , a few more weeks , and a few more pennys save and maybe the G will be back on the road , and there will be G smiles all around! ,

Hope shes in good health soon!
