Easy fix for me,all standard stuff and had a few spares.

Worth the pain once you're back out and 'avin it again..

Cant help with the piston (id be stuck after trying german engine builders/tuners on Google),but I'm wondering if the fuelling is for the standard 1272cc. Not that its a much bigger capacity now,but will obviously need more fuel. Even with modified fuelling,if its mapped for a 1272cc capacity id personally note/enquire about it to someone who knows about tuning forced induction.

Welcome to the Melted Piston club Dirrt :)

Hope you are now on the home straight to getting the G running how you want it :)

After all your problems with this G you need some good luck!

SWEEEET! loooks sick, keep the updates coming

that sucks laura. hope you get it sorted soon enough. get the funds built up and get a few more horses under the bonnet ;)

sorry to hear this. but look at it this way. welcom to the melted piston club.. i think there shoud be a show and shine at the polo show for melted pistons to see who has the best..

75.5mm = 1289cc. Sweet F.A. difference to 1272cc in the scheme of things, so whilst it'll be slightly leaner at full load (partial load the lambda should keep it stoich anyway) there's plenty of margin for safety in most of the chips (modified and stock) that are around.

If you're concerned about what chip you've got in it give us (Polo-PP) a shout and I'll be happy to have a look at the map you've got in it. (Wasn't yours a custom Jabba remap though? So should be spot on.).

To melt a piston you need waaaaaaaay out fuelling, or something more fundamentally wrong - usually something that means enough fuel gets into a cylinder for combustion, but not enough for this to be safe/controlled. Poor injector spray pattern, blocked injector, weak fuel pump etc. can cause that.

Other possibilities include blocked waterways in the block, knackered/caked up oil control rings in the pistons (i.e. lack of lubrication) or det caused by spesh plugs.

BTW - thanks to their nice dish, melted G40 pistons make decent paperclip holders for your desk, lol. I've had mine for over 6 years now!

WOAH! Nice melt :-p:lol:

I am now... I ned time to save cash and then work can be done. Not that easy on a pay cut though

I do deserve some!

Hey you! Melted piston clubs a kant tbh but someones gotta be a new member  Haha yeah man, we should do that!

Thank you Andy, well spotted. I am 75.5mm = 1289cc

Yes, that's correct  But I had a custom exhaust fitted after it came back which turns out to be idiot than I thought and not providing enough back pressure, so this hasn't helped some things I think. My own fault I guess  Live and learn though! It was perfect before it went to Jabba, had nothing but problems since it came back tbh, everything else old, weak, strained etc mixture of lots of things has been leading to all off this! Jabba did their job and did what I paid them to do, only thing I feel they should have said to me is what I need to look at, change, watch out for, what was weak, what wasn't and what could be next on the list to go and get done etc. But again thats MY opinion on the matter!

My money is on poor injector spray pattern as Pete said and dirrty injectors, they look like they've never been cleaned!

BTW - That's awesome, I should do that heehee :smirk:

The fact that your block already seems to have had an overbore suggests that it's melted a piston before - so I'd give it a thorough going over before putting it back together!

BTW - 'not enough backpressure' in exhaust is B.S. On a naturally aspirated car it might loose you power, but not on a supercharged one! Too much back pressure (e.g. tiny 1.0l exhaust on a fruity G40) could cause problems like melty melty. So don't worry about your exhaust if it's a big un!

Shit the bed this morning or something?

That has been done... Before I can go any further I need to sell the Derby, once I've sold that, I've got a G fund!

Really? Again the battle of being fed different information from different peoples...

Is the metled piston the only thing thats fucked up then? what about bits of lining, rings and piston in the sump lol? whats the barrel like?

Hope its alright soon man.

Morning Max!

Everything else is fine, it's just finding the cause for the melt now... Not blocked breathers, gonna clean injectors, probably replace fuel pump anyway but once I sell Derby I can go ahead. Need a new piston, replace rings, heads gone - so that needs doing too, gonna cost me about £500 in parts + labour

That was the plan anyway and now I don't know what to do... I'm in a G head pickle again because off different things people throw at me

tbh, it could have been a lot worst.

stop being optimistic and look on the bright side, a piston and you're rolling again. :)

thats strange... usually you'd take the piss, rich!

  • Author

... or insult me, try and put me down or tell me how i use people, that I'm fake or tell me how disgusting I am?

You OK Rich :?

That's the way I saw it  At last someone can see it! I was looking on the bright side, like I said the plan was to fix what was broken, keep rolling and enjoy the G smiles. Now people are telling me to 1341 (I don't want too, not yet anyway) and until something major happens I don't want anymore performace right now, caused me enough shit as it is being greedy for more power haha and I don't wanna spend every weekend at my mates garage with the hood up more than it's down. I wanna drive and enjoy!

I am also now receiving advice to buy a new engine and it puts my frame off mind back to square one and makes me doubt my decision to just fix and keep going :? Fuck knows...

Thanks Jon :smirk:

I reckon its the main fuel pump, they are known to fuck up alot.
