Can't use the 4-speed mount as they attach to the gearbox differently , 4-speed box mount has three bolts from the top , 085 has two from the side kind of.

its not parts or enthusiasm, just the engine is 200miles from the car, the cars with me at uni.

Well the clutch on the abd is knackered, does the 1ltr clutch of mine fit the abd flywheel? Whats the solution , new clutch or swap some bits over?

Also i have purchased everything now, just waiting on them! The fuel pump i got of e-bay is this Item number: 190254611679 , hope its the right one( 4.5- 7psi )

clutches are the same as far as i am aware, i went for a new one for piece of mind. if the flywheels looks different then swap em over too, this is where we differ as i had my crank and flywheel balanced, along with a large chunk machined off the back of the ABD flywheel to make it lighter.

4.5-7PSI is a little high for a DMTL, however if you run with a return T piece or a swirl pot with reurn, there wont be a problem, this is how my setup works currently, whatever additional pressure isnt required is sent back to the tank.

Man your motor is going to be a little beast !

Just to update you all , got everything needed , if all goes to plan i should be starting in the very near future.

Gonna get a clutch kit just incase i need it, is there anything else i will need that i may have missed out?

Question about the gearlinkage, Is the current linkage on the polo the one i should be using or do i need the linkage off another vehicle? Also to select fifth , i think i have to remove something by the gear stick, is this correct?

may aswell service the engine while its out, cambelt, waterpump if you are keen, oil and filters obviously.

that looks about it, i'd get a 4feet of quarter inch fuel hose, shouldnt need much more than that depending on where you mount the pump, if you haven't got all the weber kit already, choke cable for that, the panel between the steering column and heater controls can be removed from the rear i believe to fit the choke lever. i will be home and stripping the car wednesday morning, so i'll be able to sort you with any info,pictures or comparisons.

in fairness you have a bigger job than me, i am just swapping the block and converting to an electronic pump, you have a carb conversion and ignition system to swap and setup. neither of these am i any use to you on. hope it all goes well for you fella.

Acers, il be doing oil/filter, cambelt for sure, waterpump can wait until it goes , i have the choke cable , there is plenty of fuel pipe around work. Just wondering what box you are running?

an 8P box, 5 speeder from the 1.3, bolts straight up, no linkage issues.

may try and find a GT box at some stage. see how it turns out on the 8P

Got a cambelt, water pump( i take what i said previously back ) , inlet manifold , clutch kit today. I wasn't going to bother painting the engine yet , but i might just do so after seeing what yours looks like. Just wonder what colour to go for.

You got any pics of the side gearbox mount off a 5-speed mk2 , looking at some pics of an 8p box it seems the front mounting point is the same as the 085 which if is the case then i will need a mount off a 5-speed mk2.

well this is the product of a day and a little bit.

few little problems i encountered, water pipes are slightly different on the ABD. nowt serious, just make sure you take a picture of where everything goes, you will need an M10x1.5 tap to clean out the 3rd hole for the front engine mount, you need to swap the thermostat housings too as they are different, you'll need to get an alternator pulley and belt from a Mk3, slightly bigger than the Mk2 it appears, lines up with the timing fork a bit better. you probably already know, the driveahafts are a 12splined bi-hex allen key thing. i left both manifolds connected, plenty of room once the rad is out. some of the allen bolts can round easily like the alternator pulley bolts, take caution with those.

otherwise its plain sailing.

Glad to see one of us has started ! unfortunatly i think I'm going to have to wait alittle longer before i make a start . Few complications at work plus i need afew more bits. How long till yours is up and running?

Is that mount a standard one found only on mk2s or a home made one?

That one on the gearbox is a standard 5-speed mount.

its in it runs, as its a fresh engine i cant give it any throttle or go above 4k till 500miles ish. got the fuel pump wired into a 12v switch live, until i get around to running it off of an oil pressure switch. no problems running without a fuel pressure regulator as yet either, Facet 4-4.5psi fuel pump run through a swirl pot is what you need to aim for in terms of fuelling.

Ay up maties, little update, brought the engine home , reason being il have more time to mess about with it here, so i shall be cleaning it up and painting it, I've decided to do the swap at home also . I might get a different fuel pump to if i find one cheap.

Been a while but I'm taking my polo off the road next week to actually start the swap ! I've got my mums megane to use in the meantime, I've got a whole 3months to do it so plenty of time.
