^^ You can do. The general rule is, the top of the tread has to be under the arch, hence stretch, to get the wheels poking out but keep them legal.

Its a grey area though and cops could still do you if they wanted to, Foxie got points for his iirc and his were (unofficially) legal.

gone for tuck on mine with the wheels just poking on the rear,running 30mm spacers
