Don't go there, my Brother just bought one as well, tried to convince him that there is still good VW Polo's and Golf's out there, that need owners and have and still make good cars, but he's joined the darkside...

The darkside... Whats dark about a metro I think there great wee cars besides the one I just bought has been dry stored for some years because the original owner had died and the son dident want to sell the car back in 1984 so he kept it dry stored all this time up untill now. A metro enthusiast had bought the car just last week and clean it and mot'd it and me and him have agreed on a price of £500 just yesterday. And to bring the car up to concours speck the car will only need about £100 or £50 quid spending on it. I dont really care that its a metro any car is a good car so long as its looked after well :-)

McLovin - The Allegro,along with the Maestro and countless other rubbish BL cars used the same 1275cc A-series engine,eventually made famous in the mini Cooper after decades of service in possibly more cars than any other engine ever.

Maybe you're thinking of the 1.8 B-series,used in everything from the MGB to the Marina (and a 'hot' Allegro,which inevitably just got laughed at),does not fit.

The gearbox is in the sump on the Metro,as with the mini,and this is A-series only.

While looking randomly through eBay last night I spotted this beaut of a car at the very reasonable price of £70. So I managed to talk myself into sticking in a bid for £100, thinking I would easily get outbid. Well, I didnt. So I am now the proud owner of a 1982 Austin Mini Metro 1275 Auto. Only 44k from new with every bill and MOT to back it up. Bargain at £100 lol. Although I know have the dilema of what the hell to do with it.

nah looks like a clean motor you got there i nearly bought a very similar one for £125

Its much cleaner looking in the pics. It needs both A Pillars repairing, lower front valance, lower rear valance, drivers wing. And my brother has locked the keys inside it!
