Revs Not Working Correctly On Dash

wonder if anyone has any ideas on this one.

96 6n, 1.4 8v. Drives spot on no problems at all. except on the clocks the revs are not working. the dial moves, but just to maybe the first notch. if i rev it as hard as i can while it is standing revs get almost to 1000 rpm very slowly.

The car is reving fine, just the clocks are not showing this correctly, its like the needle is in slow montion and the revs are divided by like 10 on the display if that makes sense.

Its not a major problem, but would like to get to the bottom of it if anyone has any ideas.

I have dials i can swap (will do tomorrow) to see if it is a problem with my dials, or with a sensor or something on the car.
