hi

blown the fuse on the stereo trying to re-do the piss poor wiring job that the previous owner had done!

which fuse needs to be replaced?

oh and btw all the wire connections were just twisted together and taped! takes the fu**ing piss!!

now thats a pathetic attempt at installing a car radio imo..not able to tell you from looking at that pic.but just check the fuse in the headunit itself,should be located just beside where all the connections plug into the radio itself..if thats not blown then check all your fuses in your fuse box.and if you get the chance have someone rip all that s*!t tape off the wires and check the wires for a breaage.

i already have taken all the tape off and soldered all the connections (which were only twisted together!)

but . . .

i touch the two power cables together and thats how it shorted!

so the fuse in the head unit is fine and i check the fuses under the steering wheel anywhere else?

just check all your normal fuses where the headlights, washers..et are located....

is everything else working ok?interior and dash lights?cig lighter?

interior and dash are working but the cig lighter isnt I'm gonna do what my mam surprisingly suggested and change all of them lol!

right still nothing I've changed all the fuses but it still wont power up i cant even get the CD's out of the changer!

any other ideas?

I've changed the fuse in the head unit, redone the wiring, changed the fuses under the steering wheel.

is there anything else i could try before just buying a new head unit??

right well has your headunit always been fitted and definetly working?my advice is to keep the money that you were going to spend on a new headunit and take it to an auto electrician for sorting out.because i'm nearly sure it's not a fault with the headunit.to be sure just wire it up to another car for testing.

It is the fuse on the very right hand side of the fuses. 10A I believe.

there's no need to take it to a car sparky. unless you know someone who will do it cheap. get a £10 multi-meter from halfords and check it yourself. there are vag wire diagrams all over the net. if it shorted from touching live and ground then itll only be a fuse. given the job the last owner did its more than possible there's a hidden fuse he's put in. stick your hand down the loom and see what you can find. check around the battery and remove the under dash trim and see what you find. probably a mess there too. let me know

I've changed all the fuses under the dash(steeringwheely bit XD)

i couldnt find any fuses in the engine bay and ill have a look further down the loom for an extra fuse just on the off chance!

my dad had a quick look and went it this fuse here and its blown change it (even though i thought i had)

although in my defense it was dark when i did it so i must have took out the blown one put it down then picked it straight back up and put it back in! lol
