it's a case of better the devil you know in regards to keeping the car, however getting the gearbox rebuilt is silly tbh.

to kill the box in one of these someone really must have been driving it like a prick.

just go buy one off the bay, take your time and drop it out with some mates.

it's really not hard to do, put a new clutch in and you're sorted.

consider doing the work yourself a learning curve and a chance to do something manly instead of being a pussy.

u know not everyone is a mechanic you know and has everything in there garage with the know how to do it..... ie someone like me so stop banging on about how easy everything is.

get some tools, a haynes, get afew mates together and work throught it, theres no timing involved etc so its a simple bolt off bolt on job, and you WILL learn something that will be useful in future and also you will have more tools that will come in handy in future. just my opinion ofcourse plus youl save 150-200 quid

whos that :ninja: :p

Hopefully you ! anyway going to continue stripping car over the 2 weeks iv got off start cleaning it up have a go at the engine bay just a MASSIVE clean up :)

Few tips,then..

Use the Haynes manual. You'll need it for torque figures (though you can pm anyone, including myself, for them) and the tips, sequences and information is just generally far nicer to have with you when you're not entirely sure what you're doing.

Make sure the car is secure. Only use jacking points and subframe to lift the car, make sure axle stands are straight and secure. Having both sides of the front end at equal height on stands is preferable in your case.

Take your time,at all times. Be nosey - feel free to have a good ponder at everything.

Dont just go undoing nuts and bolts all over the place and throwing them all in a box. If you can,put them back in their thread a couple of turns,or at least put all the fittings from one thing in the same pile - for example, keep the starter motor bolts together (possibly the only green coloured bolts on the car),line the gearbox bolts in the order they're fitted, leave water pipe clamps wrapped around the pipe, lay the engine mount bolts in the upturned engine mount.. Etc.

Take plenty of mobile phone photos. You can delete them all after, its just for reference if you're unsure of anything on re-assembly.

Dont undo anything you dont have to. Eg - no good pulling the HT leads out, just rest the dizzy cap over the back.

Avoid putting nuts and bolts on a dirty floor (give yourself a clean, clear workspace first) as grit gets in the threads, and its then harder to turn the bolts back in with your fingers.

Just be logical, keep it simple, and enjoy it

Thanks mikey for that!

I got a ruff Quote today to get gearbox sorted out using my old box as a re-con for a price of, 350..... down in addiscombe what you guys think?

mr mk the voice of reason. as stated before it's not a hard box to change. just have a go, i used to do it for a living and i'd charge £130 to do it privately in a 2 1/2 hours start to finish so well worth a go.

Well guys I'm finally back i got my car back on the road!!!!!

Details:

It started of as a relaxed day i had preped everything this morning at 6am!, Went into the garage this morning about 45minz later..... we found out i have the Wrong Gearbox was not impressed it turnt out to be a 6n2 gearbox the guy had to angle grind at it to get it to fit!, Finally after over an hour fucking with it was finally in. Next was the Clutch Release bearing where fuck and the gearbox was totally buggered at this point i didnt actually have another clutch but Arran (acg) came to the rescue he got me a Genuine Brand New 2yr Warrently Clutch for £59 bargin!, finally it all started to come together by now its 12:00pm next was the exhaust Mr Lee who sold it to me P_Polo69 said it was a straight fit btu it wasnt argh so out came the hammers angle grinder as i had no more time to get an adaptor after alot of swearing and hammering it finally went on nice burble to it not to loud just the right amount.

So now I'm finally back on the road, the clutch and gears are so light it just glides into gears haha go figrue with a 1.4 6n2 gearbox!

what did he have to angle grind on the gearbox to get it to fit?

and good to hear you got it back on the road :)
