Alternator/ Instrument Issues

Featured Replies

Hi my 2002 9N Tdi broke down a couple of days ago...

It showed similar symptoms to being battery/ Alternator related but i had no alternator warning light before breaking down and it didn't do anything when i tried jump starting.

The garage investigated and told me it wasn't charging and they were going to try a new alternator.

The New alternator is on but still not charging!

Their theory is that the instrument panel is faulty and is not showing a battery light (when you first key on). Apparently they have checked with VW who say that if this light does not work then the alternator will not charge!

A new Panel is around £170!!! so was wondering if anyone has had this problem before/ knows of a cheaper solution?

Cheers.

Arthur.
