Agree, daft idea....

You say somebody could make 100 posts but delete each spam post they make. would that not put their post and topic count back to 0?

Also as said any half brained polo owner would always go on to the sellers profile and look at their topics. if it is all things like "nice car" constantly then it is obvious that they arent legitimate.

Lets jsut ahve it back to normal and if a member has a go about being scammed then I and half the posters ni this topic wil ltell them they are an ass and they should have checked to see whether the user was legitimate.

Right.... brain wave...

What about if I was to limit the restriction to JUST the wanted section?

Would stop the PM trouble we've been having, whilst still allowing non subscribed members to browse for sale sections?

I think that is a good idea, mainly because everyone is free to browse for sale sections.

Do it! x

I do also think this place needs more moderators, as it's catering for all models of polos, thats a lot of people!

I agree, I don't know where they've all been recently :(

Watching this thread from a distance.

why can't the questions surrounding this be answered? instead other things being brought up in the thread are being answered in a way to dodge the real questions that should be being answered, panda maybe you should consider a future in politics?

Already worked for the council once mate, decent people work there.... on the ground level.

Needless to say, i'll not be returning to local government.

i feel sorry for panda, no moderators backing him up. BUT this needs to be lifted. It also took 16pages for a beginning of a compromise

but what happens if i am an un paid user of this forum and i have something that someone has listed in the wanted section ?

lol, i've got pleanty of backup, just a shame it's in the admin section!

what use is that? people can still look and put topics in the for sale section which is where the scammers spring up. just leave it as normal and put a message up about scammers in the annuncment area. job done.

Mate, if you'd read my posts, the main problem with scammers was that they were trolling the wanted section and PMing users!

So....

Restricted Wanted section and an announcement or possibly a link to an article about how to buy things safely online?

how's that sound?

In all fairness panda, you may have found a solution....i mean if that where all the trouble was/is then its obviously the area to target first :) Then if theres still trouble with scamming then think of something else. However, the overall responsibility still lies with the buyer to be sure that they look through everything before deciding to buy 8-)

Try it, post something, look at your total and then delete it.

maybe this whole thing was set up just to scare people into joining :ninja:

caaaaaaaaa ching

Sounds excellent. Cuts off the majority of the scammers - average users can still use the for sale section. :-)

dam this thread is moving fast, by the time you've posted some thing 20 more post have been made lol.

that sounds like a good compromise mate.

as ben reza says...

My advice would be members only can post in the classifieds (to be honest if i am selling a car or a garage of spares, a fiver for the advert is cool with me) but if i wanna just aimlessly browse the adverts- just viewing - that should be free.

This is especially true for people wanting to get into the polo scene... oh I'm thinking about buying a golf.. do i need to pay a fiver just to look at adverts for them???

........whats the point in paying the £5 pocket change then posting your ad if i doubt if your ad is going to get 20% of views than before because some people can't be arsed payng to view something they may want!

if you have to do this should be members only post ad and anyone can view - it's not like a seller will post prior payment so i can't see how you could scam?

Much better, just wanted - if you feel it's needed.... Just lift the ban on the rest, at least. 8-)

have you looked under the nearest rock? :p

panda, open it up, BUYER BEWARE! and links to post-scam threads.

full forum lock except for a newbie area for people under 3 posts?

keeps spambots restricted and scammers...

14 Pages in 4 hours, and mostly all bad replies, surely the admin realise they've made a mistake!

thats why i wanted my questions answered...

just a question...not having a dig.......but ALOT of people are disagreeing with this, so will you be treating this as a democracy and returning it back to the way it was? or is this here to stay no matter what?

this should be taken on board!

Too many people on here can't adhere to rules designed to make life easier for everyone.

The classifieds are full of opinions and comments from people not interested in buying and its stupid.

However i'm not paying £5 to advertise something and nothing will get sold because only members can view.

Hopefully it will be back and moderated properly soon.

Oh and i've got a polished bonnet stay and bonnet catch for a 6n for sale if anyones interested?? pm me

how much for the catch and stay??

Some warning would have been a start so those with adds could have:

a) pulled them

b) put up a reminder to get incontact through PMs

yes some warning should have been put in place!

i came online tonight after work to find a massive thread 6-7 pages, and by the time i have got to the end of one page another one had started, its now totaling 17 pages!

DK was right, paying 5 quid wont STOP scams happening, it might avoid one or 2 of them but scams will still happen and i think for the good it will do it will be more detrimental to the marketplace!

all we need to do is simply be vigilant, DONT BE A TIT and use a bit of common when trading! SIMPLE!

if it looks too good to be true it usually is, if you want to still pursue then do some checking as tain said get a number get an address!

at the end of the day, people will get burned thats life it happens, but its all about reducing the risk.

if the top of the sale section says in big chuffing letters its at your own risk then it should be taken note of!

i vote personally to open it back up to non members. if you get scammed you get scammed, you learn the hard way!

Christian

but what happens if i am an un paid user of this forum and i have something that someone has listed in the wanted section ?

if you have some thing you don't want/need put it up for sale, then they will see it?

Fair fucking play Chrispy

thank god a moderator (the only one to comment so far except panda) is on the 90% side

Been a while since panda's last post, I'm feeling epic essay! :D

thank god a moderator (the only one to comment so far except panda) is on the 90% side

I was begining to doubt there existance, a bit like a police officer on the beat, somthing often talked about but never actualy seen.

Chrispy is my hero

Panda, in my opinion, and that's all it is..

You should put it back to before.

You (admins) had an idea, the vast majority of people that have paid for membership, and the non-members, both of which MAKE this site, disapprove.

I think we can agree that it wont prevent scamming.

I realise you dont like hearing of people being scammed on here, and i do feel sorry for the few people it happened to in the past, but either way, you're not responsible for that.

You're not gonna chase the person down and get the scammer done by the police, so overall, this idea would do more bad than good.

I think the best option would be to return it to normal, and put up an appropriate notice, warning people of scammers, ways to buy/sell stuff securely and safely, and state that you, as a club, are not responsible what happens in said sections, which has always been the case.

Chris.

panda, you are just winding people up with one line single posts. why not put a decent full post explaining just like Chrispy did? maybe if you did in the first place this wouldnt be 18 pages long. now please please open the sales section back up.
