Theres fors and againsts for what the admin are doing, and I think the list would be pretty long both sides.

I dont think its been mentioned but surely you should let non-members use the cars for sale section because I carnt see someone paying a bank transfer or even through paypal if they are going to pick the car up or even if they do deliver it to you then your going to have to be there for the paper work and keys so it would be pointless if they did.

how about other methods, seat.net have to approve your ad individually before posting.

it's not so bad if it was just members who could post ad's but no stop non members from viewing with the intention of buying?

Thats where the problem lies, scammers would often PM users from posts and poach them.

But you see it's upto the users discretion to use caution when buying anything

This is the whole reason ED38 stay out of the for sale threads, and say use at your own caution, if you get involved, and people still get scammed you could be liable for something.

As your making a member pay, supposedly to stop them being scammed, and if they are scammed then what was the point of them becoming a member. Its like faulse advertising or something

Paying to be a member will increase the security of the for sale section, it also provides the club with a paper trail which we can relay to the police in the event of someone being ripped off.

Genuine people with an interest in the club shouldn't really have a problem with this investment. As one nice fellow has already said, it's yet another reason to sign up.

Personnaly i think this will turn quite a few people away from the site... and considering i paid the £5 membership on the 18th december i still have not had my account upgraded so i still cant access the classified and i have supposedly joined!!!!!

Thats the shitter, atleast upgrade peoples status straight away and then look at the empty membership packs in your bedrooms for the next 3mths.

i don't think this is a good idea at all, just because people are not members of "the club" doesn't mean they are scammers.

your best bet would be making all transactions paypal and cash on collection, if anyone decides to do it their own way then they do so at their own risk.

I'm not sure anyone has an issue with the fee. It's just the people that are paying it are not getting "membership status"

This is not a good idea, i dont mind paying the £5 thats not the issue. But like said, whats to stop members from being scammers? I frequently just browse through the classifieds as i know a lot of other people do. It isnt really fair to make people have to pay, to wait 3 or 4 months, to view the car they were interested in.....just to find its sold! :mad:

1 or 2 scams and yous shut the forum? i think yous are just trying to make a quick buck. also even if i do register as a full-member it takes months on end to get you are membership pack etc.. :(

i can see why you thought this was a good idea... but it wont stop scammers... so it isnt a good idea

Il happily pay £5 to join. But:

If i join today- how soon will i get member status? i joined mx5 foum and was able to view the forum within a minute (get an email, confirm and your on)

You see i hear so many stories about member packs never turning up.... i bought a club polo sticker, sure its only a quid or something... but I'm still pissed off that it never turned up yet.

If your gonna force people to pay for the privalege of even viewing a post, you gotta get with the program, and speed up your bit. sure you have jobs and other commitments, and thats fine when you are running a free service.

My advice would be members only can post in the classifieds (to be honest if i am selling a car or a garage of spares, a fiver for the advert is cool with me) but if i wanna just aimlessly browse the adverts- just viewing - that should be free.

This is especially true for people wanting to get into the polo scene... oh I'm thinking about buying a golf.. do i need to pay a fiver just to look at adverts for them???

Can you imagine if autotrader started to charge you for searching the adverts on there?

The whole forum will suffer i am afraid, i come on here almost daily, if i cant see what is for sale... I'm probably not gonna bother so often. I have a look what is for sale, and while I'm here leave a few comments in polo chat, maybe give someone a bit of advice, and laugh at peoples chavy mods, thats what the forum is all about. I have got (or used to have, its probably been removed...) a Polo for sale in the classifieds at the moment, and some lights in the general section.

Sure its not a big deal of a contribution, but thats what you will be loosing. Dont beleive me, let it run for a month and see how many new posts you are getting, or check your web traffic stats compared to any other month. i bet you notice a big difference.

Is that a threat? not at all, its just an observation that this forum will suffer.
