Thats the shitter, atleast upgrade peoples status straight away and then look at the empty membership packs in your bedrooms for the next 3mths.

i can see why you have done it... but it wont stop scammers.

Il happily pay £5 to join. But:

If i join today- how soon will i get member status? i joined mx5 foum and was able to view the forum within a minute (get an email, confirm and your on)

You see i hear so many stories about member packs never turning up.... i bought a club polo sticker, sure its only a quid or something... but I'm still pissed off that it never turned up yet.

If your gonna force people to pay for the privalege or even viewing a post, you gotta get with the program, and speed up your bit. sure you have jobs and other commitments, and thats fine when you are running a free service.

My advice would be members only can post on the forum (to be honest if i am selling a car, a fiver for the advert is cool with me) but if i wanna just aimlessly browse the adverts- VIEW ONLY - that should be free.

Can you imagine if autotrader started to charge you for searching the adverts on there?

Thats a silly idea, if I was a scammer looking to get £1000 plus from someone from a bogus ad, I wouldnt hesitate to pay £5 to get onto that section.

I'm not a scammer however, and don't like the idea of paying £5 just to browse the for sale section.

I run fendubbers and have no intention of charging peeps fee's just to see whats in the classifieds.

As soon as someone registers, they a member in my eyes.

Cant people just make sure they know who they're buying from, loads of posts, been here ages... or use paypal, or collect in person

Exactly, makes more sense to do some homework before you buy or sell anything, i've been scammed before on eBay and stuff, only little money but i've learnt my lesson and haven't since. Best bet is to just keep it to cash on collection, at least for the cars, for parts paypal cover upto like £300 doesnt it?

No matter how hard you try, or what you do to prevent, scammers will ALWAYS be around. FACT.

Like someone else has mentioned back through the pages, pay £5 to beable to sell and then scam £1000's? It's a downward spiral.

IMO, look how many people think it's a bad idea, surely that shows you that the community isnt happy with it. Putting some text into place TELLING people to becareful and cautious when buying would work better. Check things out, check the sellers rep, dont be too fast to send money over etc. Everyone's got the internet, and people know exactly how it works, it's not difficult to use a little bit of common sense when buying something online, really it isnt.

What happens if all this goes ahead, people have to pay £5 to become a member in order to buy/sell/look etc, and then people STILL get scammed? What goes on then, you add a minimum post count into it? Christ, in a little while you'll have to have a full police examination, a deposit and a 4 digit pin number to sell something on here.

Joke IMO. I'd listen to your members, because after all, THEY make the board. Plus, £5 isnt a lot for a years membership, so you can be fairly sure that the people who are saying it's a bad idea arn't just saying it due to not wanting to pay the membership fee.

Yeah, it is, then on other cases the software doesnt work and it has to be done manually.

Second of all, I posted in the member section, asking the opinion of the members. Who thought it'd be a good idea.

iv posted a poll for if you think it is a good idea or not. it might be an easier way to get the general feeling... along with a good few pages of rants!
