its a piss tack if you have lots of cars/bikes

that are off the road

bullshit.

i got a fine from the dvla for the crashbot. Its been off the road since the tax ran out in august, but i still kept paying the insurance premium as at only 171 pounds and costing 50 quid to cancel and losing no claims bonus it wasnt worth it. I forgot to SORN the car as i didnt get the v5 for till september, which also meant i didnt get any reminder about the tax. Had to pay 40 quid in the end and its SORN'd now. motherfuckers.

Anyway i cant see how this would go into affect and i dont agree with you either haysey.

For example, I have a daily for work, its taxed, motd and insured. Now many times in my life, I've had another tax'd and mot'd working car sitting on my drive, so that in the event that my daily breaks down, i could just day insure the 2nd car and drive it to work.

It is just another beauracratic way of raking in money. How will be have to prove we are a car enthuisast, attach a ream beam to your sorn declaration? And whats to stop the uninsured drivers who they are trying to target with the scheme from pretending they are car enthusiasts.

I say they should use number plate recognition systems on all the motorway cameras across the uk, and cross-reference the plates against the MID to find out if that car on the road has mot and tax, and if so send fines in the post accordingly.

The main matter in this proposal means that once someone has programmed the algorithm that checks taxed cars against the insurance database, it will just need to do a batch update every day for people who have just removed thier insurance due to say buying a new car, swapping thier insurance over, and leaving thier beloved daily which is up for sale, taxed and insured kerrrr-ching $$$

wankers

So if you have a traders policy ad a few cars it sounds like you are going to have to send the DVLA 20 letters a day explaining that you have a traders policy and your cares arent on the MID.

Its a total bullshit idea, it wont stop uninsured drivers.

Who goes out, buys a car, in their name, taxes it, mot's it, and then thinks 'nah, wont bother with insurance'.

If you dont buy insurance there is no real point in having it taxed or tested, so just register it to a mr M. Mouse, 123 john street.

OR put a cloned plate on it, = ANPR friendly, so you dont get pulled. Go through speed cameras and dont get fined, As long as you dont crash you are on to a winner!!!

How else are they going to recoup the 2.5% cut?

We are hardly in the know about this new law at the moment so I'm going to hold judgement until it's all a little more clear. As said above there are a few flaws with it, such as having multiple cars etc...

so just register it to a mr M. Mouse, 123 john street.

please don't do this, i have enough cars in my name as is.

btw any one now how to scarp a car (log book wise) if you have lost the log book? :wasted:

can of petrol and a match?

How else are they going to recoup the 2.5% cut?

and the 2.5 billion the bank of Scotland has just written off for one Russian billionaire.

If they are targeting 6% of people that drive without insurance, why should the other 94% of drivers like myself, that pay a RIDCULOUS amount to insurance companys (a whole £220 a month might I add) suffer?! When I say that, I mean if we on other cars, that maybe e cant afford to insure just yet...or maybe theres simply no point of insuring it yet because it could well have no engine in it while it sits in your unit/garage?

I took my car off the road last year because I couldnt afford the insurance any longer...what if this occured again? I have to sell my pride and joy, scrap it?

I think there is a BIG problem in this country with un-insured drivers and yes it is completly wrong and everybody that wants to get behind the wheel, should have insurance before they do so...But how on earth is this going to stop people from driving without it?

It will lead to more crimes, people will drive cars and not have it in there name, no tax, SORN it and still drive it etc... and hell probably more car theft!! Its bloody STUPID this country!

Who comes up with these idiotic ideas?! Oh wait....I think we all know who!!!

Wait a minute, didnt read that RAC quote properly!

So basically, is this just a case of, if you want to own an insured car, it needs to be SORN'd?

They will have to make it possible for a car to be SORNed while still being taxed if they want to enforce that.

WHY????

They will have to make it possible for a car to be SORNed while still being taxed if they want to enforce that.

WHY????

So they know that its off the road and dosent need to be insured even if it is still taxed.

Suppose you could just cash the tax in though.

^ where you lose a months worth anyway, bet theyd love that, makes even more.

The idea seems to be to make life harder for the averavge person with extra froms to fill out during changes.

But that is just the game........yes they make a bit out of cashing in the Tax in, but if that is the rules you can't have both ways & it begs the question if your car is sat on your drive with tax on and you haven't got it insured, it really makes sense to have it insured.

With the interweb these things can be done instantly now anyways

However looks like layup insurance will be making it big if they do...

Pete

Layup insurance is the biggest con anyways if you look at the small print & extra costs & also how it affects your No Claims Bonus.......sometimes cheaper just to keep a policy running

You can write them a letter like I did for one of my rocco shells, got a template if you want me to email it to you

So I go buy a car with 8 months tax, plan to do a bit of work on it and have it on the road in a couple of months I have to declare it sorn or pay insurance? Bollocks. Really should be like Switzerland, you insure the plate and change the plate from vehicle to vehicle...

if they did it on a person basis, ie; mr smith is insured T&T'd on his vw golf but has a second vehicle, vw polo T&T'd on the drive, then why would he drive the uninsured car? Just doesn't make sense.

that would be great mate, my email is in my profile thingy bob <<< cheers

and to any body saying it would be impossible to put this into practice, your very wrong, it would be a peace of piss for them, they would just use the same system as they do for the tax.

what gets me tho is why the fuck do you have to keep on re-sorning a car? they did me out of £80+, thing is i'd only just bought the car and didn't realize it wasn't sorned, they didn't even send me a reminder just the fine and in the small print it tells you that they may some times fail to send you a reminder... funny how they never seem to fail to send you a reminder when your tax is due, mind you they don't get any money out of you if you sorn it, but if you forget they can, fucking wankers.

They are bastards when it comes to sorning. I bought my Polo with no T&T, did the work on it and got the MOT. When i then TAXed it after a month of owning it the women in the post office says the person i bought it off hadnt sorned it straight away and by the time i taxed it more then a month later ment they fined him for that month as it wasnt sorned.

  • 2 months later...

Should do what americans do have insureance that covers all cars and anyone in the household to drive (obviously accept the cars that not sorn (not road worthy)

simply screwed if your a second hand car dealer

Take the wheels off and declare it a garden shed??

Another law ill not take any heed to to be honest, thats daft as fuck, i currently have a car sitting taxed and tested but not insured, and up until 2 months ago the G40 was in the same position.
