Depends, labour will be the biggest expence if you cant do the work. The VR is a very labour intensive engine.

Obviously mileage plays a part.

I would pay a bit more dollar then average for one with fair bodywork and service history for the engine - chains, tensioners etc. My mate has had allsorts done to his (172k) engine to keep it sweet.

stueyb on here bought a raddo VR, paid a bit more then normal and it has paid off since.

next i want, something VAG and tdi, could be one of many tbh

top two choices are a passat wagon tdi or an octavia vrs wagon tdi

id consider other things although id probably only keep any of these for a shorter time and then get something else
