What's The Best Car You Have Ever Owned?

Featured Replies

Had tons of different cars over the years, best was probably this 68 Charger

chargerrear.jpg

Too friggin big to park anywhere though.

Best financialy was a 98 Fiat Cinquecento sporting, had it five years and it only cost me £2500 including buying it and £240 for a suspension kit, no garage bills though as i work on my own cars.

Love That Charger Awsome Bit Of Kit

whats Wong with French cars ???

I've just got a Peugeot 405 and its Great

best car I've had was a 1.9 16v 405 mi16x4 very rare car and fun in the snow watching people get stuck as i sailed past them still got the car sat in the garage couldnt afford to insure it and tax it so bought a 6n polo 1.4 8v and ime glad i did

nice

how long have you had it ?

I've had the 405 for a couple of years now but need to sell it as my dad is moaning about it taking up space in the garage :x

that's a big jump for the 68 charger to a Cinquecento

what made you get a chinky then ??

Na, i had a 70 Mach1 Mustang before the Charger

Bought the Chinky as i was driving a 3.0 Capri to work every day and the wee Fiat seemed like an ideal cheap wee car to run around in, most were red or yellow the one i had was imola blue, was only intended as temporary till i got something decent but it was so cheap and reliable i used it for five years, i mentioned in my last post it owed me £2500 over the five years but i sold it for £650 so it really cost me £1850 which is peanuts, insurance was only £110, only sold it eventually cause i got bored with it, still see it driving around my home town 8-)

Before the Pollow i had a Fiesta got rid asap hated it, when i was 17 i brought a MBK Nitro 100cc scooter brought it for £400 rode it for 10 months 4000miles and sold it for £700 was a hoot round country lanes. But the Polo makes up for that on a cold winters morning for it's heater :-D

Clio 182 Cup...best overall. Handles well, amply quick in a straight line and across country, comfortable and it looks shit hot. It's not without issues though...bit rattly, driving position is compromised and the engine mounts are getting a bit on the soft side...bit like a Mk3 Polo in that it's not perfect but makes up for it with bags of character!

Ye but it French....

their built from onions and wine bottle corks :lol:

Only French car i would buy is a 205, and thats caue there really cool!!! lol

and made from milk bottle tops

so have you ever acutely owned a French car

or are you just racist

He is proberly like those police that pull me over cos I'm white!

Silly comments get silly replies.

firstly i have been in the motor trade for 13 years and i have never seen a straight 205 . made from unfolded tin foil , they all look like they have ripples all over them , and all twang when you close a door . i`m not racist but i hate french cars the most as they are not designed and built very well .

to the guy with the 405 mi16x4 , interesting car but , you make me laugh as you finish with "bought a 6n polo 1.4 8v and ime glad i did"

hi let me know if your selling it mate

Have you ever actually worked on a french car?

Or are you just keyboard warrior

hi yes i have worked on french cars i've worked on German cars and the Spanish cars

so whats your point ??

Fuck all wrong with a french car if you enjoy driving. They are really, seriously, terribly badly built but 99% of them handle far better than any german effort at front wheel drive handling.

My VTR is definately the best car I've owned. Most reliable, most fun, most economical, fastest, blah blah blah

My Mk2 Golf is a close second but loses out on the fact that I haven't driven it for 6 months+ and can't remember how it drove

thanks for that

the 405 handles better than my mk2

and the build quality is better to

Well, I've never sat in a 405, but my Saxo is built a lot worse than any of my nazi wagons.

wall its probably cuz the polo is from 1988 like me

and the 405 is from 1995

I'm generalising here but

french cars = on a budget

german cars = prestige

you get what you pay for

i`ve always said that if you spend £50 or a million , you wont get anything better for your money than a vag car :-)

you fucking will.

my volvo daily and my dads volvo make even prestige 'dubs look cheap and nasty... equivalent age passat looks and feels cheap... and audi's, tho much nicer still feel a little bit too... mass-produced and too try-hard?

its wierd.

something about the solid feel and comfort that pisses on dubs... :?

if you get a chance, drive a late 90's early 00's volvo 5 pot that has been looked after... even the "basic" cloth seats feel so much comfier than boggo vw ones...

better in what way? @ polo d

better value for money

running costs

engeneering

residual value

now i`m not saying that all cars are crap apart from vag`s , yes some are built better but cost more and loose more money . and i`m not saying vag`s dont have their problems

all i`m saying is for a £50 polo or fiesta , the polo will be better and last longer

and a veyron will do anything you ask it , and what else compares to that ? their may be faster things or more comfortable but how many thing do it all together ?

your volvo may be solid (as they all are) but would it out perform a passat and be more economical ?

yeah, my v70 has a bigger loadspace and seats 7, all electrics still work after 177k... more economial depends on the engine, but the big 2.5td volvo'd aint too bad on juice and piss all over 1.9tdi's... my 2.5 petrol is shit for economy, but so was my 2.0 petrol passat, and th volvo engine is much torquier and happier at m-way revs, and sounds savage compared with the 4 pot.

cost new £24k. slightly lower spec (no leather, cruise or cd player) than an equivalent passat for that money, but they are designed to compete with audi, and are priced accordingly.

cost to me? £250 + £150 of parts an labour on front brakes and a siezed caliper + tax (£100) has 6 months MOT an will go thru another no prob.

cant even get a clean 20yr old passat for that kinda money...

take the vw blinkers off dude! i love my polo, and loved my passat, but they just cant compete...

vw blinkers , er vag that includes now lots of other mauqes

so it was £24,000 and now it worth £250 that sound like a bad thing if you would have bought it new , lucky vag have better residual values

but i have to admit that the newer cars (from 2000 onward) are all pretty much the same apart from the very top spec models

well of course the 5 pots going to be better but did you forget about the v6 tdi audi a4`s !

volvos are nice cars, wouldnt say they're perforamance orientated though

my friend has a 200bhp volvo c70 2.5 turbo and its fair quick, fookin quick for a 19 year old! FWD though :-/ ruins it imo

best value for money imo are e36 beemers. i paid a grand and a half for mine on 140k. still looks modern, drives ace, decent economy on motorway even at triple figures and with my private plate people think its new and I'm paying for it on finance :s i got a 4 pot for insurance reasons but when I'm older 328i sports are ace value for money too

I've done 5k miles in mine so far, i work in it and its paid for itself, its comfy as fook and has digi climate control

better than any overpriced and scene taxed VAG and defo better imo than any french car

of course not, but the audi's cost more than £24k new...

and i got an absolute bargain, and i know it... depreciation is only a bad thing if your the 1st owner... for genuine market value of my car with 12 months mot an 6 months tax, your looking at 150k+ 1.8 20v n/a passats... dog slow, base spec, sod-all history... err no thanks, a friend had one as a company car, and they are seriously crap in that spec...

residual values? more like scene tax half the time when dealing with older dubs, look at mk3 vr6's ffs!!! you can get a rough one for sub £500!!!! these were bloody expensive golfs when new!

Edited by Jackblack

an a4 2.5tdi is £1,700 more than your volvo and in good nick it would still be worth £3,700 now !

as for vr6`s , yes you can pick a ruff one up for that but you can also pay £4k for a nice stock one, and what volvo compares to one of them (340haha)

scene tax , you sure its not just the way we classify a classic cars status nowadays without calling it that , if you say classic people think e-type not polo , and this is where that word gets used "rare" , in years to come people will see an add for a vr6 an say "i wish i`d have bought one for £500 20 years ago" as the value will rise because of scene tax/classic status

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...icleRegLetter=V there you go, equivalent volvo diesel, 100k on clock, mid-spec, 4k... cost new about 26k by the looks of things, prestige cars depreciate worst of all! and an equivalent audi petrol wouldnt be worth £3700 with 177k on it... looks to be £1500 tops? so your paying £700 for a badge? no thanks.

i aint comparing volvos to vr's, different kettle of fish my son, you can pay 5k for a mk2 16v too but so what? residual values depend on the vehicle itself, i was just making the point that just coz its a dub dont mean its gonna hold its value! a mk4 r32 with 200k on the clock is gonna be worth less than one with 50k on...

what you're saying has already happened to mk1's and is happening for mk2's, but it dosent make it good value for money!

horses for corses my son, but i'd rather have my £500 worth of volvo than £500 of audi...

i did say 2.5 TDI a4 not petrol , petrol cars are worth less than derv`s :p (priced from parkers guide)

i still believe in what i say that for your cash you wont do better than a vag

the r32 with 200k on it will be worth less, but if they get that rare it will still be worth money , who`s gonna want a volvo v70 to restore ?

we have propper hi jacked this thread  we will have to agree to disagree :lol:8-)
