What's The Best Car You Have Ever Owned?

Featured Replies

I'm generalising here but

french cars = on a budget

german cars = prestige

you get what you pay for

well said

i`ve always said that if you spend £50 or a million , you wont get anything better for your money than a vag car :-)

i had a 2001 seat leon cupra and i hated it the build quality was shit and i lost £1500 on it in 6 months

it i got a pug 306 gti-6 it would of been Worth the same after 6 months

you fucking will.

my Volvo daily and my dads Volvo make even prestige 'dubs look cheap and nasty... equivalent age passat looks and feels cheap... and audi's, tho much nicer still feel a little bit too... mass-produced and too try-hard?

its wierd.

something about the solid feel and comfort that pisses on dubs... :?

if you get a chance, drive a late 90's early 00's Volvo 5 pot that has been looked after... even the "basic" cloth seats feel so much comfier than boggo vw ones...

my dad had a Volvo c70 T5 GT and that was better then any vag car

better value for money

running costs

engeneering

residual value

now i`m not saying that all cars are crap apart from vag`s , yes some are built better but cost more and loose more money . and i`m not saying vag`s dont have their problems

all i`m saying is for a £50 polo or fiesta , the polo will be better and last longer

and a veyron will do anything you ask it , and what else compares to that ? their may be faster things or more comfortable but how many thing do it all together ?

your volvo may be solid (as they all are) but would it out perform a passat and be more economical ?

£50 polo where do you get one of those from

i did say 2.5 TDI a4 not petrol , petrol cars are worth less than derv`s :p (priced from parkers guide)

i still believe in what i say that for your cash you wont do better than a vag

the r32 with 200k on it will be worth less, but if they get that rare it will still be worth money , who`s gonna want a volvo v70 to restore ?

we have propper hi jacked this thread  we will have to agree to disagree :lol:8-)

you can't say that no one will want to restore Volvo's

just cuz its not a vag car doesn't mean its a shit car

the reason a 306 gti-6 would be worth the same in 6 months is because its already at its lowest value coz its shite

only jokin, but obviously a newer car will lose money faster than an older car, simply for the fact its newer and has more value to lose!!!!

firstly i have been in the motor trade for 13 years and i have never seen a straight 205 . made from unfolded tin foil , they all look like they have ripples all over them , and all twang when you close a door . i`m not racist but i hate french cars the most as they are not designed and built very well .

to the guy with the 405 mi16x4 , interesting car but , you make me laugh as you finish with "bought a 6n polo 1.4 8v and ime glad i did"

na i only said that as i ejoyed driving my 1991 mi16x4 but my polo is a more up to date and uses less fuel than the 405

to bjs1 bought a breader for £50 two years ago and the coupe i`ve got now was free :p and some one on here got one for £30 2 weeks ago

for the price of a v70 t5 gt , you could have probably had a s4 or rs4 (not that i can be bothered to check)

and i`m not saying the volvos shit , but come on would any of the more modern cars be restored unless they are the top spec model ? focus 1.6 or rs ? R32 or 1.4 golf ? passat 2.0 or v6 4motion ?

my mum paid £7k for a 306 cab and its now worth about £2k and its been for sale for a year now , i paid £3k for my G40 and its still worth £3k eight years on .

dubbegood , ok you enjoy driving it , i enjoyed driving my mums old lotus excel but i would not want one , due to the lack of build quality , what do you think to the of the build of your 405 ?

yes, and as my car is a petrol, i'll compare it to a petrol...

i still believe in what i say that for your cash you wont do better than a vag

then you have been sucked in by marketing... what about beemers? rwd, great quality, fantastic engines...

V70R's, TWR's and T5's will be the enthusiasts car of choice, who wants to restore an old v6 audi or 20v passat? horses for corses...

congrats on the bargins 8-)

err. no. 2000W-plate V70 T5 SE spec, 30k new, 2000W-plate S4, 37k new or 2000w-plate S6 (equivalent size to V70) 56k new... so not the same, no. (prices from parkers)

no-one looks after 1.0 mk3 polos either only GT's and G40's... same thing everywhere, common cars are forgotten about but the ones the enthusiasts love are looked after...

my mum paid £7k for a 306 cab and its now worth about £2k and its been for sale for a year now , i paid £3k for my G40 and its still worth £3k eight years on .

well done, you got your g40 cheap back then, i wouldnt go as far as to say 3k in this current financial climate, but its nowhere near worthless...

french cars devalue with age unless its an R5GTT or a Williams or a 205 GTI... so you cant compare your mums disposable 306 with a collectors G40, 306 GTI 6-speeds are still holding some value...

mate, take the VW blinkers off!!!!!

ok you volvo is better than a passat and cheaper than a audi , and made better , but that`s one car mate ! how many cars have you been in , i have driven tones of bmw`s, volvo`s, citroen`s, renault`s, jaguars, bentley`s, rollers, subarus, merc`s and many more mainly upto the age of 2000 , bmw`s aint all that :smirk: find them creaky , good engine`s .

my mum`s 306 is a 2.0 ltr cabriolet , with leather and hard top , so its not disposable :-) but it is horid to be in, shakes, bangs, slow, uncomfortable, but its never broke down to be fair apart from she run it out of petrol :lol:

i did think you said that it was a 5 pot derv , but never mind

sucked in by maketing , why did you by a volvo ? cos you thought it was safe ? i had a polo for my first car and thought it was great , had other cars and driven lots of other cars , but nothing came close to the all round package , they may not be as well built , or technicaly advanced , or the best looking , or the most economical to run, but they do do the lot for what your spending

and i do look at cars from a mechanical point of view , after working on so many different marques of car vag cars are the easiest to work on , on a whole . which for me is part of the design :-D

but the question is, in the future would an enthusiast even look at it?

na 2.5 petrol, was just comparing like-for like with the diesels you were naming.

nope, i bought it from some good family frineds who had just bought a new one, they got offered £250 on trade-in and i was after a daily so i can strip-down and re-build my GT, i said i'll match it and run-around sorting the paperwork out, a cheap daily is a cheap daily! normally i'd run a mile from a car thats done nearly 180k, but after driving it i couldnt turn it down, feels fucking solid, engine runs silent and it goes like stink.

i agree with earlier VWs bein easy to look after, i'v had 3 golf mk2's for that simple fact, i just think there's more to life than VW's!

their is more to life than vag , wouldn`t everyone like a ferrari or bmw m5 , but cant aford one . like you say horses for courses .

millage on moddern cars dont really matter with the technology nowadays , but the you got back afew years and thats what vag was good at , i had a mk2 polo that had done 124k when i bought it and did another 150k+ in it before the engine went wrong , i do agree that the difference in moddern cars is nothing with the technology available to all manufactures , as years go on their will be blandness across all cars and will end up being just transport boxes , apart from special models of course

my mum`s 306 cab is a posible restorer for the future , it is pretty . only time will tell .

so whatr car do you have now ??

The best car I ever had was a 5 door mk2 golf driver 1.6. Started first time every time, smooth engine, motorway cruiser, didn't miss a beat. Drove like a tank, but was so reassuringly solid that you felt safe in it.

Mind you, I'd traded in a Renault 5 1.1 campus for that, so it didn't really have much to live up to.

so whatr car do you have now ??

i still have my G40 as that car i`m happy with and never want to sell (my coffin  )

and i have a battered mk2 coupe which is going bike carbed Gt lump

i wouldnt want anything with electric bits and power steering , just good old simple cars , with all the controls at your finger tips , no looking for buttons and all that extra weight , but what makes me happy wont make you happy !

so have you ever acutely owned a French car

or are you just racist

Have you ever actually worked on a french car?

Or are you just keyboard warrior

hi yes i have worked on french cars i've worked on German cars and the Spanish cars

so whats your point ??

I don't like you.

volvos are nice cars, wouldnt say they're perforamance orientated though

my friend has a 200bhp volvo c70 2.5 turbo and its fair quick, fookin quick for a 19 year old! FWD though :-/ ruins it imo

best value for money imo are e36 beemers. i paid a grand and a half for mine on 140k. still looks modern, drives ace, decent economy on motorway even at triple figures and with my private plate people think its new and I'm paying for it on finance :s i got a 4 pot for insurance reasons but when I'm older 328i sports are ace value for money too

I've done 5k miles in mine so far, i work in it and its paid for itself, its comfy as fook and has digi climate control

better than any overpriced and scene taxed VAG and defo better imo than any french car

Meh, you want a big car that's cheap and worth every penny, it's got to be a Camry. I've done stupid miles in mine and never had any problems apart from a cheapo alarm dying.

thats the point its not about how fast the car is if its not nice to be in then its a shit car

You want speed and a comfortable ride. My Mk2 Golf 16v has: PAS, c/l, e/w, electric sunroof and i paid £120 for a leather interior. In total £1200 and its a 3dr 90's spec in Oak Green.

When it comes to the prices of cars some kid themselves (Mostly E38 prices), you look on autotrader and there are better cars for the same money.

Btw my Mk2 Polo i have as well right now cost me £50 and I'm buying a Polo GT tomorow with 12mths T&T for £400 because its not been advertised on here.
