Fiat. Such a cool car! Its like a modern, better Uno Turbo :D

The Alfa is sexy but i wouldnt.

Oh and with the nearest dealer being miles away.. mate, Fiat dealers have been great with us, my dads on his second in 4 years, they're always offering free services and great deals and upgrades, whereas Alfa are known for having one of the worst dealer networks in the UK.

Plus like you said, the Fiat will become a classic, Alfa's depreciate bad.

And i dont know about modern Alfa build quality but Fiat's is very good these days.

whats the diffrence on insurance groups Mouse???

Think it's 12 for the standard Abarth and 10 for the Mito

At present I'm 75% Abarth, 25% Mito

Cool little video of the SS kit being applied:

The 500 is a modern old school car if that makes sense. 1.4 Turbo as mentioned like in an Uno Turbo, R5 Turbo etc, retro dash, under 1000kg - I love it!

and 5yr warranty on fiats...

*chants*

Abarth!

Abarth!

Abarth!

:D

I say go for the Fiat for pure poke in the eye fun!

got to be the abarth :)

although, the last abarth i saw on the streets was the multipla arbarth

Go back 3/4 years and I would of laughed if you told me to buy a Fiat. I hated the front of the Grande Punto for a while, now I think it looks gorgeous (again I actually think the Punto Abarth looks better than the 500 in a more subtle manner). 500 even as standard is a cool little car, new Panda 100HP is cool, new Bravo is a great looking car. Need to bring back the Fiat Coupe!

My old mans got the Grande Punto Active Sport, really grown on me tbh.

Well I'm off to Glasgow in 2 weeks to see Metallica, so thought I'd go down early and visit the Abarth dealer in the afternoon. Hopefully get a test drive of the 500 Abarth. Want to try the Punto too if it's available.

I went to look at a standard 500 for my sister at the Fiat dealer in Aberdeen. First impressions are really good, it's a great little thing and very roomy for it's size. Interior build quality easily as good as my Mk5 Polo. Can't wait to see the Abarth in the flesh.

One recent car to tempt me away is the recent announcement of the "new" Renaultsport Clio 200, hmmm lol

MiTo, looks good in the flesh, tho my director has a normal 500 he calls Luigi.

I've borrowed an Abarth 500 off Fiat for the week. I love it!

It goes well, not exactly fast but it's nippy. Handles and drives like an eighties hot hatch, it's so light you can throw it into roundabouts and it just hangs on for dear life. Sounds great, built really well (new Fiats are really good) and I reckon it looks stunning inside and out. Little touches like the flat bottomed steering wheel and massive boost gauge are really cool.

On the flip side, the driving position is a bit odd- it's a little like a Smart ForTwo, you can't drop the seats at all but you can tilt the base. The Sport mode is an essential, if you turn it off the car becomes totally gutless, the steering's really light and it feels very odd to drive. I've left it on all the time.

Oh yeah, and the ride quality is pretty poor. It's a short wheelbase, narrow car so it bounces around a lot and the suspension is really firm.

I love it though, it's got a G40-esque chuckable liveliness but not the same thrust of power. I'd buy the standard one though, wait a few years and get it played with by an aftermarket tuner. Save the extra bucks. That said, 160bhp would be awesome, 135bhp is enough fun!

Here it is:

Taking it back to Cardiff tomorrow night, then across to London and back on Saturday and back up here on Sunday. I wonder how much I'll like it afterwards.

I'd look out for a bargain on a 197 mouse...no real gains on the new 200 and the 197 looks a bit better head on. Might find there are savings to be had now the 'new' model is around the corner. The Fiat is nice but is a Jnr hot hatch, you've already done that with the Polo...time to move onto something proper. 197 with Recaro's would be amazing! Check out drivers-republic.com for a review of the fiat, it just went up in the last few days.

Renault dealership in town is pretty pathetic but Makie Motors in Brechin might be worth a look, they have an R26.R in just now...lush! 197 is streets a head of my 182 in terms of build quality and it looks like a very grown up car.

Girlfriend has a Punto, it's a very nice car. Little awkward to park as the nose is so long and hidden from view. Only a 1.2 but you can feel to potential is there for it to make a good sporting car with more power and revised chassis. Really like the look of the Esse Esse version in red with the black arches, very Mk3 Polo!

Close to the top of my list of best cars ever driven. The R26.R is RUDE. It does make your balls ache after a while though.

500 abarth, al only call you a girl for abit, then al get bored

Nice cars if am honest, engines do sound like a peach

Fun car - DO it

If your looking to leave VAG id definatly say the Renaultsport Clio 197. Its really grown on me lately and i hate French cars. Theres a sweet one on EU-Mania :)

whats that 1.4 superchaged/turbo charged golf?

i know jack shit about it so someone enlighten me....

fiat though if it was life or death....

Mmm new Megane 250 lol. I think the 197 is a bit too plane jane for me. As I said before I don't doubt it's ability, and it is a little faster, but the 500 has personality. I read a review of the Grande Punto Abarth in Performance Car, and they said it was faster round their track than a Type-R, although the chassis wasn't perfect. I'm looking forward to Thursday now to get more info.

Looks like I may go for a red one with SS kit and checkered roof. Considering buying new next year as it will be hard enough to find one on the second hand market, plus dealers would still sell them at a premium because they are in high demand. My sister has actually just bought a brand new white 500 last week, though it's the entry model.

Yay, test drive is booked for 5.30 on Thursday :D

Me personally would go for the 500.
