common fault on them is the bottom of the battery bay rotting... but that would make the drivers foot well wet as well.

i've checked all over, the whole car is solid as a rock, and the rear passenger foot well is the only wet area?

i guess i might find the leak when i start stripping out the interior!

will probably do that this week as i can take bits home and work on them inside like door cards, seats, dash, that sorta thing

planning come ICE already, think I'm getting a it ahead of myself but found a pair of 10" JBL subs for £28 delivered and a 2 channel 500w amp to power them for £15 delivered

i've got some speakers kicking about for in the doors, and got a set of 6x9's that i going to put in the boot.

the plan is a small boot build that uses the "wasted" space behind the rear light clusters, the 6x9's fit nicely in the gap and the subs can sit at the bottom at an angle, should work out quite nice

and best of all, you can still use the boot, and wont be able to see anything from outside the car!

well she's all tucked up in the garage now awaiting some love

i think I'm probably going to leave the majority of the work until the weather improves, theres not enough room in the garage to work on it in there really so i'll have to reverse it out every time i want to do something, so first job is going to be the interior as i can do the majority of that at home

going to order in some fabric for the seat covers and try and find something for the carpet

got the grandma involved now, she's going to make me a set of seat covers as the seats aren't in as good condition as i thought, the passenger seats padding has all slipped to the bottom and they're all a little bit stained, they would probably clean up ok but i'll stick some new covers over the top just to smarten it up a bit anyway

going for cream leatherette with a black strip down the middle, i'll make up some matching door cards too with some speaker space

wired up the head unit last night, need to get some speakers in there as the one in the dash doesnt work, so at the moment it just has 1 6x9 sat in the passenger foot well

also found a puddle behind the passenger seat, but theres no sign of a leak anywhere?

going to stick it in the garage tonight and start the strip down sometime this week hopefully

should have the wheels in about 3/4 weeks, i went for the snowflakes

Check the window seals cause my mk2 polo was doing the same and i put the hose running down the window and you should see that the seal is letting in water, so for temp i just put tape on them and its working fine for now

ollie mac, I'm toying with the idea of starting from scratch with the door cards, sheet of thin MDF cut to shape, then build a rough frame for the speaker housing and fibre glass it all to shape

G40 is correct. Try mk3 gt or later spec golf brakes

this weekend I'm hoping to sort the head gasket, as i may be having this car to replace my golf, and picking up an older bready for the GF (i'll need to have this one as the insurance company wont cover the other one, 6 months too old lol)

The brakes are bad because mk2's dont come with servos, very big job to modify the bulkhead to fit a mk3 servo, although you could perhaps try a remote servo kit from a classic mini specialists? That would make a MASSIVE improvment

Also, the brakes on a gt are the same as as a 1 ltr etc, only the G40 has vented disc and better calipers, gt's are still solid discs.

i know of a few remote servo kits, been "playing" with aircooleds for years and going to be doing a porsche brake conversion on my bay as soon as its rust free, not much to bolt the brakes to at the moment

got myself a new head gasket and an assortment of other gaskets now so will be starting that this weekend

this polo may become my daily fairly soon, going to look at another bready tomorrow thats too old to insure on my current policy, so the GF can have that one instead, needs less work

quick question, might be a really stupid one though, could i take a power washer to the engine bay to clean it out if i was careful to avoid things that shouldn't get filled with water?

i think aslong as you dont get any water in the engine and you remove the battery you should be ok, also youll need to dry out the distributor cap etc after if theres any moisture inside it

made a start on the head gasket today, never done anything to a "modern" engine before, its all a bit new to me, bloody coolant pipes everywhere, who the f*ck puts coolant in a carb

got as fas as taking off the inlet manifold, the shield thingy on the exhaust manifold is stuck on, going to try some clamps on the bolts tomorrow if that doesnt work then i'll have to get the angle grinder on then

hopefully i can get it all finished tomorrow, shouldn't take too long to put it all back together now i know where everything is/goes

got bored of the engine after i couldnt get the shroud off the exhaust manifold so took off the bumper and tried removing the drivers wing as it's adly dented, but the wing wont budge? all the screws are out, bottom of the wing by the door, 4 on top, and the plastic liner is out but it still seems like its attached at the corner near the windscreen?

Abit of wd40 on all the electrical connectors afterwards and all will be fine

There are 3 bolts underneath all the underseal going down the a post inside the wheelarch.

With the heat sheild hammer a 9mm socket on instead and try to crack it off, if not just chisel round the bolts through the tin, quite thin metal so easy

once i've finished up all the eingine bits (hopefully next weekend) i'll be stripping it down ready for paint, i thought the body work was in very good nick, until i had a look in the light yesterday, scratches right down to bare metal all down the passenger side, and a few dents on the drivers side so i'll be painting it gloss black

then when the next pay cheque rolls in i'll sort out the fuel tank (forgot to order it when i was going to )

once the fuel tanks on i'll stick it in for the MOT to see what else needs doing

then i gotta work out what I'm doing with the wheels
