I don't like rat style on new cars, or for that matter any VW water-cooled. The only cars that pull it off are the air-cooled lot, and the American hot-rods from where 'rat style' came from. This is all ofcourse in my humble oppinion.

Whenever I see a ratty style (just a rusty bonnet or a fully rusted) VW, I see it more as a tribute. If someone owns a ratty Polo/Golf/Passat it tells me they undertsand and respect air-cooled stuff, which means they're cool

Trashing? Doing donuts in car parks, Bouncing off the rev limiter and tearing round fields is trashing. When I hear people say "Rat look is only for air cooled, go buy a Beetle" They forget, Not everyone can afford to buy and/or run a Beetle. It's still a VW, It still carries cult status and 'Rat Look' is what it is, A Look, Not Trashing.

point taken but in my opinion when people spend time to make their car rusty and devalue it (trash it) it is bloody stupid. and also i think the rat style is quite limited....it seems to have a taken a turn where rat style is jsut a car with a rusty bonnet and a roof rack.

its not about respecting your car, i have no respect for my car, i love it, but thats totally different. i've owned a shinny car once... and i was fucking devastated when i scratched it, i mean full on gutted, i lost all love for it and hated myself for being so fucking stupid. so i went back to shitters, i've never washed my rocco and have no intention of, when i did the arches i touched the paint work up with a can of satin black spray, the bonnet vent is held on by wood screws through the bonnet (screwed into bits of broken wood inside the bonnet) and i just cut the hole out with an angle grinder, the parcel shelf is held up with long bits of broken wood, my side exit is bent and twisted from where i clipped a curb... and i still love it, shinny cars just course pain...

bullshit, i call that helping speed up the natural process lol. its all about having fun with your car and not worrying about the repercussions because its just a shitter, if you start getting your head up your arse and putting your shitter on a pedestal then your as bad as the people with shinny show cars who seem to dedicate there lives to there cars and keeping them mint/clean/scene

all ex-popo cars have to have all the sign writing taken off before you buy it. having police on your car is an offense, but having poliza (or how ever its spelt isn't), also this is why you can roll around in a yank car dressed up as highway patrol in this country. i doubt you would get done for having police rattle canned down the side of your mk2 jetta tho, i think they would just give you a telling off and use there commonsense, i mean come on your not gonna think that thats a really police car are you?
