My spraying archive! Updated.

Featured Replies

looking good, i was told to use a piece of newspaper masked to the body and then fold the newspaper over to prevent getting sharp edges when spraying.

ill try and explain a bit better.

place a peice of newspaper over the area to be worked on

stick one side down with masking tape

then fold the newspaper over the masking tape you have used to create a loose fold

this should allow you to see the damaged area and not give any sharp edges.

really difficult to explain.

yeah they got vw centre caps, and there is a clio near me that has these in the pic and they are slightly differnt.

If so I'm going to make them suit the polo lol

I'm now thinking of doing them matt black with red centre caps and then the vw sticker on top of centre caps.

the silver clock surround looks mint pal, gonna go do mine

Ok so you know i got these alloys right?

I'm currently getting the paint off all of them but have only done one....just about.

What I want to know is.

would sand blasting speed it up and if you know anythink about sand blasting let me know please.

and.... would I be able to polish these instead of spray them? SHED SOME LIGHT PLEASE!

Sanblasting will speed the process up no end mate .

Polishing is possible although looking at those alloys it will be extreemly dificult ..

what if i can get a small buffer?

alrite mate, youve done a pretty good job of spraying there, I'm about to do a few bits similar on my car...can i just ask though.

what did you use to sand down your bodywork?? just trying to save having to do it by hand lol

Well in the pictures it dosent show that the paint was actually corroded, so I first used 60 grit went to 400 then to 800 then 1200, primered sanded the primer with the 1200 and sprayed.

cheers bud

lol its not far off a halford attempt.

hahahah true

Ok! I'm back on the bodywork thing, planned to fill all dents, all chips, get rid of all rust from both rear quarters and both doors.

I am planning to spray these all well, but with a gun and move away from rattle cans.

I'll have the pictures of tomorrow to let you see how rar along I have got. This will be the first time using the gun, but I have a 16v rear that I will be practicing on befour I start hitting the car. (No spraying will be done for another week or so except primer) Just all prep ATM :)

If your going to polish the wheels don't get them sand blasted as it will leave lots of pits in the metal. Which will make it harder for you to polish them. IIRC you need them media blasted if your going to polish them. But to be honest I'd just strip the paint off then start with the wet and dry.

This threads made me proper want to sort out my mk3s bodywork

cheers fella :D

Ok so I have really gone to town on the car now, but that was before it started to get cold and totally forgot that I wouln't be able to spray in this shitty weather so ill just keep prepping untill the time is right...oh and i had an idea that i wanted to share but we'll get to that later.

and about the wheels, I have given up on the wheels sanded them all down and that, and painted them with some hammerite smooth black, yup with a brush! purely because i couln't care about them!

Back to the car.

So anyways I wasent happy with the body works dents or the colour that halfords sell as satin silver.

So I went all out! brought loads of paint supplys Guns, thinners, laqure, tak cloths, mixing cups, mixing sticks, water trap, breather mask and so on.

I was going to get the paint mixed up at halfords for £25 for a liter, the women who was about the mix it up didn't even know how much a liter was?

ok so she had to get some spotty aprentice that only know how to fit bulbs to help, i had a look round for a little while and she came and found me and said we don't have enough silver to make it, I said to her, thank fuck for that, you didn't look like you new what you were doing anyway and walked out, it was probally the best choice.

So I have decided to spray the car myself propally, with cellouse paint, I will be painting booth doors, booth rear quarters and the side skirts, the only thing that is letting me down is the weather so this is the idea I have had, possably been done before? I might be going to buy a 4.5 X 3 M gazebo with 4 walls to do the spraying in, with a little heater of corse.LOL

So heres the stage I'm at soo farr.

Just keep in mind that the prep is no where near finished before you comment lol.

fair play man, takes some balls to start sanding, filling and painting your own car.

halfords mixed colour is pretty pants so be glad that you didnt choose that!.

keep us posted
