195/40 on an 8 = win

165/40 on a 7 = FAIL

trust me i know haha

i ran 195/45/15 on the rear of my cupra on an 8.5j rim and even after some hard cornering i never had any issues.

i managed to get a puncture in the rear tyre and drove it for 5 miles flat without noticing, even took a long sweeping bend at 70 - (YES THAT WAS THE SPEED LIMIT!) with the flat on the outer edge and it didn't even pop off the bead but i put that down to pure luck!!

if you have wider rims and effectively widen the track of the car then it will aid handling and stability, if you have to have a little stretch to achieve it then it's not a bad thing.

too much and you'll be taking away from handling and would make me a tad nervous when cornering hard.
