the roof bars look shit tho

but yes it is a turn around, a rat look car that actually looks rat and not just shat look

I suppose we'll just have to see what it looks like 'finished'. Jury stays out 'till then!

fair play if you get it looking right mate, it just seems that if some one ones to make a rat these days they just chuck paint stripper on it and fit a roof rack. the main reason i got in to rat look cars was because of the originality that they had and the thought that was put into them, every one was different with there own unique touches, but now they just all seem follow the same lines and seem to have gotten as repetitive as euro look. its very rare that you see a rat look car these days that is unique and like i said that's the main reason i like them :(

i suppose its a bit unfair to make judgment before its even complete tho, we'll just have to see what you can do

Nice one. I've got a few little touches here and there for it, but I'm keeping them under wraps for now.

Surely the reason people do rat-look is because they like it though? Following the same lines as other people do when they apply a look to their car i.e. Euro or OEM+. You can only regard it in this context, really. I'm not gonna spend any money on this, if I was, it'd look the nuts, clean, low, wide, but my money's being thrown at other projects, so I'm taking the cheap option.

Yes, I'm adding a roof-rack, search light, stickers and other gubbins, but that's the look, isn't it? If I didn't, then it'd just be another knackered old polo!

I'm not after awards, just the occasional questioning look from the unlearned!

these are real rats... making your car rusty aint 'rat'... it's about the patina of a well aged car panel! i think it is an awesome look... but only on old cars rat modern = fail in my opinion...

your mk2 gets away with it though cos its old skool in my mind!

Rod rat rocks full-time. If only.

Check out this beauty from Dubfreeze, went past him on the M6, must've been a bit chilly!

rude as fuck.. there is an amazing ratty beetle round my ends, slung on its arse with patina'd rusty panels, not 'processed' rust... looks the nuts! sounds mean too, would be great to show up some tosser in a crosa sxi in that beast!

best way to get a ratty looking car is go to a scrappy and get some worse for ware panels there... they would have been well weathered... give the rat rod look too cos that what rat rods are... scrapheap hot rods!

Its all about the Burnt Out Look .. lol

rat look cars should look like they got to look like that naturally and it costs nothing to make the body work look like that just imagination and time, obviusly if your gonna take it as far as the golf above then it is gonna cost, but the key to a good rat is a tuned engine, pimp wheels and tatty body work. rust and roof racks can be a part of the look but they ain't the look if you know what i mean?

not quite sure what this would be classed as but i love it

Not a fan of the rat look personally, but it would be a laugh like you say, and when i come across an older car i might do it for shit and gigs then weigh it in when I'm bored :).

Drive it along a wall, smash fuck out of it, speed holes in the bonnet (Homer Simpson style), stamp on the roof, kick every panel in.

Just make sure you can keep it road worthy (ie dont break the windows, lights etc....).

Could be a right laugh. :)

Do this, try to get different bright coloured panels too, kind of a 'harlequin' rat look. That would be different.

Most of the panels have dings, rust-spots and creases in them, so I'm just releasing them to the elements.

Done another couple of badges today....day-glo-tastic.

You should of said, you could of had my red mk3 saloon, ready made rat (courtesy of some chavs). Holes in most panels, caved in roof, new but damaged bonnet, back end full of rott=perfect car for you, haha.

Or just have Goldie, plenty of rott on and in her

(not really, would never get rid of Goldie no matter how bad she is).

Wow, this person speaks the truth!

It doesn't matter what you do, wheel/tyre size and stance make or break a car.

I'm interested to see where this ends up.

Looking for something fat and cheap to chuck under the arches, don't what to spend any money though!

Yes, I'm adding a roof-rack, search light, stickers and other gubbins, but that's the look, isn't it?

no thats not the look at all, the look is natural rust, natural dents, this is just another forced rat thread where McLovin has to explain what rat look means.

guy you should stop wasting your time

regardless of what you do to it, it does need stance, negative rake ftl  who's is the silver one with black bonnet? that is niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

That is mine also.

I'm not wasting my time, I'm fecking around with a car, to how I want. Rust-bucket shite-look.

To be fair Genesis Jim, you're the one wasting your time by posting what you've posted, which isn't even borderline constructive criticism. And McLovin doesn't HAVE to explain what he thinks Rat Look is, he makes it his business to whether the owner wants him to or not.

I'm not the first one to say this donnyburger- But it's your car and I applaud you for working for the look YOU want ;)
