Half Mk3 Gt....

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The time has come to have a bit of a clear-out, chiefly following a Mk2 Coupe S - GT conversion.

This listing is for a complete, early Mk3 GT shell, fitted with an incomplete, late Mk2 Coupe S engine (missing appropriate fuel tank, fuel lines and engine bay loom).

To provide a small amount of inconsequential data about this 'donor vehicle'; it was bought in October last year, as a running vehicle with MOT and Tax until the end of the month. It was driven around for a week with no apparent problems, before being SORN'd and ripped of its engine, engine bay loom, fuel pumps and fuel lines, rear axle, entire exhaust system and steering wheel. These items (apart from the engine bay loom and fuel lines) have subsequently been replaced by the standard Coupe S equivalents.

Obviously it doesn’t run now but it is a solid rolling chassis and, with a bit of notice, I would be happy to bleed the brakes and it would be good to go (for transport purposes it does have an operational handbrake and gears can be selected). It could come with the Hocks or I have a set of original GT steels with much better tyres on, if preferable.

There was no reason why the Mk3 would have failed an MOT - infact it theoretically still has MOT until April the 20th - and it was clearly cared for, with a stack of receipts and every MOT from new available on request. I am just particularly attached to my Mk2 and wanted to give it a bit more poke, in the form of a low mileage GT lump.

The shell is not mint but there is no rust that I can find. All the usual places are completely clean (bottom of windscreen, lip under rear windscreen, sills, fuel filler area, battery tray, arches, boot etc.). There are a few trolley dings, somebody has clearly 'gone to town' with a touch-up pen on part of the bonnet, at some stage, and the driver's door doesn't shut very nicely. The dash loom is complete but of course the fuel pump loom is now in my Mk2. Also, there are no passenger side seat belts (used to remove the engine). I'll let the photos do the talking…

The engine itself is from my beloved Mk2 (pictured below). This had covered 79k when it came out, with a very recent cambelt, water pump and all service bits (ign. rotor + cap, plugs, all filters, semi-synth oil, etc.) - fitted March last year with receipts to prove. Last July it had a new cam cover gasket, the cover was cleaned up and the carb was tuned. It did considerable motorway miles last year without skipping a beat.

It's also worth noting that the vehicle has been garaged since last November, out of the weather.

Ideally, I would like to see if somebody is willing to take the whole car. If not, I will break it up.

I (will) have another series of posts, following this one, listing all sorts of random GT/Coupe S parts in their relevant sections on the forum.

If anybody has any questions, please don't hesistate to PM me. I am happy to supply as many photos or as much supporting info as you need. Alternatively, viewings are welcome - via PM.

I am located in Loughborough, Leicestershire.

Open to offers

Cheers,

Ben
