1.0 Alternator Belt Tensioner

Featured Replies

Hi All,

On our first long trip in the newly acquired 99 Polo (1.0), the tensioner of the Alternator belt exploded. Luckily, we were close to a shop who had one and a new belt in stock. Even more impressive was that the old parts (bolt, washer, even old tensioner) were all hanging on in the plastic protection.

My question is this though: Do I have all the parts? The pulley slid on over the piece of aluminum (axle), and the interesting shaped washer with bolt went in no problem. Fitted the new belt and off we went. BUT, is there a piece, like a spacer, etc that is supposed to go in there as well, or does that washer hold the pulley in the right spot?

Seems too simple, but it has driven a few hundred miles since (I am still waiting for my manual to arrive by mail).

Thanks

Renato
