It would and i have done some similar in the past, it just takes longer and doesnt have as much of a 'mirror finish' as alloy...

It wouldnt rust in a day unless you poured salty water over it, it would sure go dull and be a pain to keep shiney!

It would oxidize in contact with the air pretty quickly mate, but your problem is condensation. You would have to polish it REALLY regularly. You could try shooting it with a layer of clear laquer but might go eventually without a sealer.
