I passed at the first attempt (in the days before 'minors' , theory tests and all that guff), in a 1963 850cc Mini, 5 months after my 17th birthday.

#1 Son also passed at 1st try with 6 minors about 7-8 months after 17th birthday in a 1989 1043cc Polo.

He started on 'mates rates' of about £10/hour with a newly-qualified instructor I was working with who wanted to build his client base. Then that instructor emigrated so for the last couple of months it was full price, which was worth it, but hurt! In between there was a fair amount of evening and weekend practice with me around the local industrial estates where there's loads of space that nobody uses at those times.

I passed 1st time at 17 years old. My birthday was 29th Aug had 4 lessons and was ready but had to wait till 10th Dec to get a test.

I did an intensive course in a week. I loved cars, repaired them for a living by 16 and had to get my license quick - so as soon as i turned 17,an intensive with the RAC was my first move.

A mate let me drive his dads Montego in the old Sainsbury's car park the saturday before and i couldn't pull away for stalling it.

The saturday after my intensive,we tried again - he didnt know id done an intensive all week.

So i lit up the front tyres and smoked it in the first three gears, then hand-braked it into a parking space - then got out quickly and ran!

Great times.

Some of you lot are lucky. I had a arse of an instructor, money digging fool looking back on it I really should of swapped. Around 40 hours of lessons overall, passed first time with 5 minors :-D

I'm think I'm doing an intensive course in june when i turn 17.

First time 9 minors! and theory first time!

6 months from my bday had 23 hours including my test and also drove my car at 17 to school etc

passed 1st time with 2 minors :D

I passed within 20 days of my 17th

I had 2 x 1 hour lessons & had 3 minors.

I'm a bit special & had been driving on the road since 16 though, so I had had plenty of "road" knowledge

One of my mates did an intensive course, he's written off 4 cars so far (one year), lucky his parents are pretty damn well off. He's an excellent driver, races karts etc, just has zero road awareness!

i was 17 on june the 16th, had 20 lessons and went out 4-5 times in the polo and passed on november 5th , with 7 minors

I'm in the same boat, took my sister about 13 months and about 60 odd hours, passed on her third time.

TBH i think the first few lessons are going to be unlearning what 'knowledge' I've previously accquired on the streets of rage.

Took me 8 months, about 65 hours, and about £1000. Went out loads with my mum and dad and passed first time with 6 minors :-D

That is a looong time, 65 hours :o

Haha, i wasnt confident at all,lol until my driving instructor said make sure you can here the gas, i passed my test about 2 weeks after she said that xxx she could of said it sooner, lol x

mine was terrible....about £1200, 6 tests, over 5 years finally passed a year ago with 4 minors :-D

i also sat my theory test twice...passed it both times lol bloody runs out after two years apparently lol

I was taking the piss heehee :-p

I did mine in about 40-50 hours, skipped a few months lessons due to dollar shortage, work paid for my first 10 hours and I passed 2nd time
