single wiper conversion mk2

Featured Replies

i was fiddling about with my car trying to think of stuff to do and i thought of converting it to single wiper. after fiddling with it and looking at it i realised how easy it is. all i did was take off the wipers and get the motor out. then with a hack saw i cut the bar off that attaches the drivers side wiper and put it back in. then all i did was put the passenger side wiper on like 45 degrees up the windscreen so that when it turns it covers the whole screen. i'll get some pictures up tommorow and right up some proper instructions. well pleased with it though and its free!

Does this give enough coverage of the drivers side tho? :?

here it is, you can just about see the wipe marks to see its coverage.

i think it will look better when i get a long wiper arm, and obviously cover more.

If the linkages etc are anything like the mk3, on the linkage bit, you can put 2 cuts and then bend it about 10mm so its dog-legged and this gives alot better coverage.

You can then fiddle with the positioning of the linkage on the motor to set it where you want the wiper to lay.

I think how you've done it there mate it would fail an MOT

You can get proper storm single wiper conversion kits which cover the whole windscreen, 9-3 and back again.

the only thing with these conversion kits is the price of them! I'm thinking about doing this to my 6n. but doing it properly so i can pass MOT with it. itl be fun but i feel up to a project. just need to wait till weekend until i can go scrappie.

yeah I'm thinking maybe a longer arm would give it more coverage. is it just the coverage that would fail an mot? it's not a big deal cos i can easily grab another one for mot purposes but if it is a fail, PLEASE DONT COPY ME WITHOUT KNOWING THIS!!! i dont want a mob at my door!

cant you just fit a rear wiper motor, cuz i heard something about doing it a while back but not quite shure ? ? ?

i did this on my old Mrk2 bodged single wiper conversion, got 21" inch blade and put it on...it covered pretty much whole windscreen but pissed off passenger cos it was right in their eyeline all the time lol... would consider lookin into real kit or a way of making the travel of the wiper further for example shorten the the rotor arm on the mechanism maybe would make the travel wider? dnt take my word just a thought maybe som1 can put a brain on it n say if itll work or not

cool, yeah i was going to go for 20 but if 21 fits thats even better. yeah i think I'm gunna bend the thingy and see if it will go further.

I know this is an epic bump lol but I've just done this but still have the bit that the second wiper arm attaches to sticking up. How did you remove it? As i've had a look but cant see any way short of cutting it off, and don't really want to do that :(
