I've just spend £2000 on a Polo GTi, plus a hundred or so on some parts that needed replacing, so I'm somewhat skint at the moment. However if you can hold out till the end of the month (payday), i'll be more than glad to send some more cash your way :)

Just a thought.. but, you do realise as soon as you start going into say east-europe, and certainly into the middle eastern countries, you will die. Temperatures usually reach the high 40s, and its common for it to hit the 50 mark as well. Certainly was that when I was in dubai last summer.

why dont u take a northern monkey with you.. just make sure to feed him copious amounts of lager, and give him a crowbar.. those cheeky terrorists wont know what hit em :p

P.S - You really are under-estimating this whole heat business lol. If it was just the heat on its own, then yeh, you can plow through it. It was 27 here the other day, and I couldnt take it. Was going down the motorway, and I still was boiling, had to use the air-con. Nah, the real problem is.. the areas you are going to are not only going to be >45c, but stupidly high humidity. If the place has a high humidity, you cant sweat. If you cant sweat, well.. you cant get rid of the heat.. complications arise :) (i.e. people will faint)

Hence.. back to my original point, stick the northern monkey on a peddle-powered air-con machine that you can shuv in the back of the van, and you are problems are solved.

Dude we have double sliding doors. And I if you take the headlight access panel out then you get a 2" square gap by your feet.

Heat is an issue but we wont be driving between 11-4 so we will miss most of the really nasty stuff. thnanks for all your donations so far guys

Don't worry about the heat.

Turkmenistan can be over 120F in the shade. But it's also a dessert country.

Same with Uzbekistan, Iran, and Kazakstan. Everywhere actually.

The humidity is very low and you will be sweating buckets.

Believe me.

Take a spray bottle (for house plants) and apply to your face.

If you're in mongolia in late August it becomes really cold. Especially at high altitudes.

Thanks to all who have sent a bit in the last few days. :) We met some of the other rallyers on Saturday night in a field in Wales (had a big camp fire- oh and I nearly got pwned by a 20ft branch) and we were very smug in Reggie the van while everyone else got drenched in tents. :)
