Can someone tell me why the fuck I have a brand new battery, just few months old and its running flat?

If I drive over 20 mph the light goes off

Few odd jolts on acceleration (like when my rotary arm was fucked on the Genesis) but no cut out, even sat in traffic etc it doesn't die but battery light is on

Then I had to push my fucking car into work this morning

Had to turn it off to use keys to swipe me into work to open gate, didn't wanna start then

How the fuck am I gonna know that? Everything in it was original from new until headgasket was done and cam belt changed few weeks back

then engine code is stamped just above teh alternator on the head, if you clean up the crap on the top of the engine mount you should be able to see.

your car doesnt have a coil pack either, it has a coil and most likely a points based dizzy, its worth replacing the contact breaker and having the points set with a dwell meter.

as for the battery dying, you need someone to check the voltage across the battery when the cars on, and check that the alternator is working, if the belts loose too it wont be charging fully.

I've been having the same problem with mine, its worth checking to see for dodgy electrics, someone may have wired something electrical to a non switched live, so its always getting power and draining the b82res

i had this problem with my polo

it ended up being the condencer

which are like £2 from car shopps :)

but i was told to change my points aswell there like £3

such cheap parts but there the last thing i would have thought was up with mine .

was such a ball ache finding it was that

I doubt it's a HK, it's too early for one of them. It'll most likely be a 1093 (HB) Same sort of distributor as the HK though, so could well need a service. It's 8 bolts btw, not 10. :)

Who did the headgasket? I hope they know what engine it is...

Funny you should say that Gaz haha I've got the funniest picture for you lot I took this an hour ago...

Went to garage on way home from work to get an idea what's going on because I know summit ain't right but it is running fine apart from the battery light comes on and off. Belts OK and not enough power going to battery which I already knew... Alternator! Plus there's a oil leak coming from somewhere and it's all over the alternator. Great! Got a quote, a bump start and off I went (30 miles from home and the car runs so was thinking it would give me a day or two to get money from somewhere as it's holding up and driving OK) cruising down the motorway and my car had 3/4 tank I've done like 8 miles and I'm now on less than a quarter, shitamons... battery light not on nor oil light, driving fine still (i don't care what happens just as long as I get home) get off at my junction and it just dies, all lights come on and I haven't even got enough power for the windscreen wipers in the rain haha.

Boring story short, the car is dead, wont start and needs a new alternator, clean up, possible new rocker. He did say cam seals but they have all just been done, so couldnt be that surely? Got towed to Malvern and someone hopefully looking at it for me tomorrow. RAWR!
