cheers guys:-)

Sean - just gotta take a backseat approach mate- at the end of the day its an internet site about polos! and the more serious people get about it- the more sad they are;-) I'm on here to have a laugh and help people- the haters can fook off and sit in the corner staying well away from me!

and drop me a pm when you need some help and il see what i can do- same goes for everyone else.

Awesome as per usual.

How at home does that turbo setup look? Nice job 8-)

Super filth. Gonna be hard to beet that awsome noise though 8-)

What do you do as a job kiz?

  • Author

i haven't had time to pick the coilovers up- making sure i hit the shows is the most important at the minute. they will get done dont worry.

will be hard to replace the noise- but its a good thing! eh eh eh what what eh eh??

id be deaf else!

Right - some updates

Got nearly all the parts to assemble this now. I'm only missing the gaskets and studs which hopefully will arrive tomorrow:-)

Got a hose made up - its slightly not long enough to reach perfect:-( i may have to be anal and have it remade a little longer possibly incorporating a 180degree bend piece so the line flows round the rocker cover.

water lines i have used a standard passat line out as my line in as it fits betweek the wurbo and the actuator with a nice gap for the heat not to effect it, and the line back to the header is a banjo - line T's into the header tank return. the inlet line uses a new custom made top rad pipe. looks a little neater then a rubber bodge hose i initially made.

The sump i drilled a hole after i had marked it out on the engine (to ensure clearence from antiroll bar and downpipe)

IMG_2278.JPG

IMG_2281.JPG

And my oil drain line i made from cutting the end of a passat item and using a rubber hose to 90degree fitting like so

fingers crossed i will have this running by the weekend!!!

is your strut brace on bacl to front?

yes, it fouls the brakes and header if its on the proper way. also it now looks like it bends around the header tank.

and cheers for the comments guys

You really dont hang about do you

always loved this and now youve made it so much better :D

keep it up cant wait to hear it running

  • 2 weeks later...

running a K03 from a passat, and yes its running a mocal thermostatic sandwich plate and

a 13row oil cooler. had the oil cooler already from my eaton setup.

You doing edition mate? Want to have a good look at this :)

yes should be at edition38 fingers crossed

turbo is the path you should of gone from the start dude looking good!

  • Author

nahhh, the eaton was a right laugh- nothing will ever replace the noise. seeing people mouth the words "what the f**k is that" never gets boring

Well - thanks to Mclovin - i made it to edition38...my luck seams to be getting worse!

I was having trouble setting the timing after the turbo swap - turns out cylinder 2 was showing zero compression!!! it was head off time and so, with myself 3miles from home at 5:50pm on Wednesday night - set off for the local parts shop, on loudspeaker as i travelled to the shop and bought a headgasket.

got home and with Guy 10minutes behind me we set off on a 6hour investigation job

OH SH1T! however i had bought a spare cylinder head with the turbo kit for rebuilding when i do the 1.5turbo

So Guy worked his magic on cleaning the head up ready for installing onto the engine

IMG_2399.JPG

i then measured the TDC with a DTI so i could pinpoint the timing mark

IMG_2403.JPG

IMG_2404.JPG

IMG_2407.JPG

so 6hours later we had removed all of the ancillaries of the cylinder head (turbo, inlet etc)

Cleaned the new head up

Cleaned the block up

Installed the new gasket

Refitted the head with new headbolts (i had new spares)

all i needed to do was fit the turbo again and i was done:-) so all of you that saw the car at edition owe the fact to Mclovin!

happy days

Right then!

been a while coming this update but I've been trying to get the car moving about to shows etc so people can see it in the flesh.

Right first off - I've been welding:-)

Everyone with a turbo G40 will know that the throttle body looked Sh1te once you have blocked it off with a pipe-bung and 2 jubilee clips.

so i cut the second butterfly off mine (the boost return butterfly) and welded up the hole - being a complete tit with the alloy rods so it built up loads

IMG_2441.JPG

As you can see there - a hell of a lot of sanding later and its looking pretty kooool

Did a bit welding on my BOV pipe aswell - you know me - couldnt be easy

IMG_2365.JPG

IMG_2368.JPG

i think I'm going to move it though as I'm getting chatter and i dont want my turbo to wear out. going to weld an adapter to my intercooler so its near the turbo.

gave the car one hell of a clean aswell - shes come up quite nicely i think

Turbo setup now complete

Headed off to players - and 1mile from the bloody show the only part of the engine i didnt change a small water pipe split - Mr RAC fixed it in under 10minutes:-)

thankfully i didnt even have to wait - i broke down next to a mcdonalds he had pulled into for his breakfast!!!!

IMG_2478.JPG

But made it to the show - i took a couple of photos

IMG_2500.JPG

IMG_2502.JPG

IMG_2503.JPG

IMG_2504.JPG

IMG_2505.JPG

engine build starts now :-)

And with that i think i have drawn to a close what has been the most completely ridiculous waste of time for 4.5years! I've had some laughs I've had plenty of crys, I've made some amazing friends and learnt so much, would i do it again? NO!

My days of building a nice car are well and truly over, they will be replaced with more simple projects based on high horsepower/low weight or daft creations.

Got a few sets of coilovers to build and some panels to make and sell so you never know - one day you may have a boot or bumper on your car which has had my fingers all over it. brakes and adapters and I'm going to offer some repair work out there in my spare time like coilover fitting etc etc

Again - thanks everyone for all the kind words over the years

Kieran

Had a nosey at this at Players, it was one of the very few interesting motors there for me 8-) Amazing work

looks fantastic at players kiz, aswell as edition.

Great stuff with the turbo as i said.

Dude epic epic work! You best be out in force with this next year I wanna see this in person and meet you. Truly inspiring work!

not seen this thread before, I spent about 10 mins around your car at players admiring the work.

Then I came back a little while later for another look.

I only took 12 pictures on my phone at players, and yours was three of them. (6 of the others were of a pearl white caddy in the car park!)

Nice work fella.
