Webasto electric ones and britax manual ones

Harder to find than a polo one mind.

However, the MK2 breadvan in my thread has a twingo one, which looks perfect. Same shape and size etc. But again, may be too big for a coupe.

I might be collecting another mint one

So if you do chop yours, you can have the buggered one of mine for spare shizz if you need it.

Yeah, but thats top dollar

Mark posted a link in my thread of a site that did like custom made ones etc.

If you'r gunna buy a new one for a mini, you may aswell buy one that will actually fit with no messing.

Race is on - who will have the first open air mk3 in the UK?....me or B-Shaw

driving over it

You about this weekend at all kiz? Might pop up and have a look at the 6n roof if you don't mind?

I didn't get a great look at the one i had mine from, because it was too early and i was super tired, n couldn't mess about cus the bloke had work lol.

I'm just gunna bodge mine it, fuck knows how it will come out.

Weld the frame for the runroof to the roof, then tidy the cut up as bast as possibly and shove it in

Possibly some sort of re-enforcement around the edges n back.

How tight is the fit in the coupe? Many people have told me they don't fit into a coupe?

not got the roof at mine mate - its at my mates. looks like I'm chopping it down anyway!

the plan is to remove 1 of the sections of the roof (it folds into 5 or something) and this will shorten it by about 12" and then be perfect.

and as I'm cutting it down i can take the major curve bit out before i weld it back together. all trial and error this aint it. I'm glad i have a spare mk3 roof to destroy instead of chloe.

your more then welcome to come over one sunday

kiz, I'm intending on doing the hydro clutch mod as my paddle is pretty damn stiff. i hope you dont mind but I'm pretty much going to copy what you did !! (unless you wanna make me up a one off kit ??) just wondering what and where did you get the master and slave cylinders are they both mk4 golf items aswell or is the master mk4 golf and the slave rover item ??

  • Author

its not as easy as i made it look mate. the slave cylinder is rover and the master is a stubby passat item. my bulkhead is different to a normal mk3 after all the changes i made and I'm not sure it was a great job!

HOWEVER! all is not lost. i have been working on a new system to replace mine as I've been making it to fit into a normal mk3. i have believe it or not 2ft of mk3 bulkhead with all the steering column etc etc to test fit the new design.

i have a few design issues to overcome on the pedal as its now a rear facing cylinder and a universal girling item. Plus the gearbox as I've been getting flex from all the force applied to the lever. if you can hold on then you can hopefully buy a kit, if not feel free to copy me

I'd be happy to let you iron then kinks out then buy a kit once your done. I have to say this is an amazing build thread loved reading every page of it. Brilliant car keep up the good work!

  • Author

cheers mate - the car has been well received so I'm dead chuffed.

your not the only one wanting a hydro clutch! its made driving mine sooooo much easier:-) i cant put a date on completion of the kit - but once i have a kit finished i will let you know mate - i haven't found a decent fluid bottle which is cheap yet so if you find any give me a shout.

I'm hoping the kit will only require the drilling of 3 holes as a modification to the car. how i run the fluid bottle line is going to be interesting - might even combine a new battery tray panel along with it.

And as for plans - I've almost built my cradle for the front of the car so i can fully remove the front end of all its suspension and components. The engine will be removed next weekend and then the big overhaul will start. theres going to be massive changes afoot. i was not happy with the engine bay - its far to messy and i can do better!

Plan -

A OEM but modified full engine cover - this will hide some nasty looking parts and clean up the bay.

Removing ALL boost pipes from view - this will make it more minimal and look cleaner

New bulkhead design

Relocated engine mounts and further strengthened and smoothed chassis legs near bulkhead

And with the new engine going in - I'm making a new inlet for a 20v throttle body and a complete new wiring layout

oh and I'm doing a few other MENTAL things to the bay which i know haven't been done yet

Keep eyes peeled

Hi mate cars looking amazing! Well done at gti fest!

Since you have more free time now would you be interested in fab'ing some

Mounting brackets for airbags? Cheers!

  • Author

hahahahaha i have less free time now then I've ever had lol.

i have a massive amount of threaded tubing which I've made up for 54mm and 58mm diameter coilovers (most common sizes) and I'm trying to get some brackets laser cut - but its finding the spare cash mate to fund it as it costs a fortune to get this stuff done and if i dont shift it i end up sitting on money in metal.

heres a photo to prove I'm not just bullsh*tin

i may start a thread gauging some interest in who will want them - but need to be expecting 100 quid a set really!(2nuts 2 threaded bag brackets and 2 top brackets) and thats not making much for me at all so you can imagine the numbers i need to produce up front!

Oh, thought id whack on with a teaser.

Chloe has had one hell of an overhaul this xmas - shes going to be rocking the smoothest bay ever! I've only deleted a few more parts like the brake servo, strut brace is gone, i now have a heater again :-) and the addition of some lovely 4 pot brakes!

only 4 people have ventured into my garage and seen whats gone on here so its still a little hush hush - but none of them didnt gasp in absolute shock when they saw it.

Spen uped the bar with his bay and such a lovely loon and mine had long been painted by then to catch up, I've caught up big time!!!!!

nomnom cant wait to see!

  • Author

it makes my old bay look shit lets put it that way;-)

Haha gonna look sick 8-)

Looking forward to seeing what youve done.

If your struggling to get a decent price for the bits you need machining (brackets, flanges and turned parts etc) then give me a PM, i'll be able to give you a competative quote, and i can source the materials for very cheap.

Think about it.
