What sort of miller have you got?

I'm talking CNC machining, i also work with "solid works + solidcam" which enables me to do what any lazer cutter can.

What sort of things do you need lazer cutting?

I've only got a manual bridgeport miller as I'm old school lol. I'm laser cutting as it will still be cheaper then full machining! I'm doing some airbag plinths- theres just a minimum order and theres 2 materials involved.

I'm slowly filling up the order with my hydro pedal boxes and other polo parts its just getting the cash flow mate.

done solidworks before but my previous job was using UG NX and catia. wow i look back now and think "jesus I've been in my new job 5years" cant really call it new anymore. but yer i know what you can do with that,

if i do thing of something il get in touch

I could be quite interested in some of your airbag coil over plinths, would like to slowly build up air ride for my mk1 golf!

Looking forward to seeing your new bay, gonna be good going by the rest of your work 8-)

is your paint actually an original colour? how did you get it to shine like that? like a mirror! never seen a mk3 with paint like it

  • Author

its not original no, its a seat colour.

to get it to shine and reflect like a mirror you have to get it flat! as simple as that!

well not quite- many an hour was spent wet flatting using 2500grit to get it as sweet as that! when it was sprayed i demanded 3 layers of clearcoat for this reason.

ahh i see! fair play! i didnt notice you had it sprayed, i just saw the pic of it original and then this and thought whaaaaaaaaatt?!?!?! hahahaha

so nice man! i cant wait to perv over this when i see it

Done loads this week - very happy with progress:-) i accidently found the reason which makes the mk3s chassis legs twist, quite horrified at actually where the strong point (actually weak point) is!

so i now dont have to worry about my chassis leg breaking free (common mk3 problem) although i did weld that up for strength before but now i know it wont break.

filler work has commenced, ultimate dubs is still a possibility but I'm not going to rush it for then - esspecially when they snubbed me.....there loss!

those who have me on facebook have already seen what I've got going on, pretty scary!

:-D ( Goes and has a look :) ) .....

...... I cant see anything on this chassis leg? :(

Compared to some of the boring crap they had at ultimate dubs last year i can't believe that they didn't want this inside!!

Can't wait to see what you are doing.

8-)

I'll give you a clue Jake, the weakness and strengthening isn't actually in the chassis leg itself

It's Kiz's own fault tbh, instead of wasting his time building this he should of put his time and effort into orally pleasing all the right people, that way at least he would be guaranteed an inside place and probably even a prize of some kind no matter what run of the mill 'show car' he had

it not what you know, its who you blow

Told you Ben ditch the squareblock for a coupe, problem solved

the part which takes the load is the part between the turret and the A pillar. without the fold which the wing bolts onto the car just bends!!!!! i found this out when i removed it to gain access, not a problem as i just jacked the car up by the jacking point and hung a weight on the end of the chassis leg while i welded it back in. but that flimsy 1mm thick piece is so structural its unbelievable!! i have since x braced it to reinforce it and the stiffness is now 10x more than it was before, it actually shocked me loads!!!!
