to answer a few of the questions -

Its painted white as it will look cleaner and allow me to see better where it isnt clean, mad i know but i got some new brakes for this and they came from a Vauxhall Nova rally car - and it was white and the owner explained how he did it to spot oil leaks and thought- thats the final answer - had always planned on doing it white since i finished the car nearly 18months ago.

Yoof - theres no blue to it - just the reflection in the paint - it was just a great shot so i included it in that post. and I'm already 1 step ahead of you - not only am i going with hard lines for the water - but also the oil feed as it will look much neater - going to try and modifiy the head to accept a m12 union for the feed.

Polomon - the wiring loom on display has gone - as hidden as i can make it - so it will look almost wireless - i even looked into a heatproof box to house the ECU under the inlet to truely make it look like its not wired.

I'm trying to sort the header tank out to remove it for a pressure cap inline as i said before - the strut brace is gone - the brakes have gone - so all that piping is neater I've added 2 pipes:-( as i now have a heater again - see on the back of the bulkhead

when I've got it running again next week I'm going to see what else i can remove - i was going to go bloody wild and reroute the boost pipes instead of having them where they are - but for the moment there staying put - initial plan was to run them under the sump - and the exhaust up over the gearbox and round - will more then likely do this in the freshen up next year

nahh by the spare wheel bit! would be the only one! i wanna do it so bad when funds allow lol, reading up on it on the interweb, people dont seem to think its that much more laggy than normal. and the bay would look even more minimal! lol

presentation - General finish of the engine bay. I was amazed at the polishing you had done on all the cast ally such as the TB when I saw it last autumn which I'm learning is a total bitch to do. How do you remove the rough casting finish that cast parts have? Look forward to seeing the bay done, need to see a new bench mark!

I think youve got a hell of a lot of work to do before you say that- your bay is uber tidy, but when you look at the small details in mine like the stainless fuel line clips, leather steering rack padding (instead of the foam gasket) - every nut and bolt chromed- lockwired bolts, and the if its alloy- its polished!

Challenge accepted! hahahahaha

As for the polishing- it takes bloody ages of sanding and sanding and sanding- and when the rough asting has gone its going through the grades of paper to remove the scratchs before you use polish and buff it up. i spent 30hrs on my inlet manifold alone. i also fix things- like further back in the thread where i cut of the boost return valve- weld the hole up and then sand and polish it in so it looks like a 90degree bend on top of the throttle- a hell of a lot of sanding- rewelding- sanding - rewelding - sanding, like my rocker cover:-)

Oh i know I have work to do, but its on! I'll have you know I have polished every stainless bolt in mine though. Who did your chroming though? I can't find anyone local to me, nearest is High Wicombe

Yeah, your boost return being welded up is inspired. And the rocker is cool too. And this is going to sound like BS, but I always had that idea before I saw yours, I just don't have the welding ability to do it. Which means I can't do it now, as it will look like a copy.

The idea for the rocker cam about when i bought the car back in 2006, as normally people leave the boost return off and run the Glader oil feed through the pipe - i had no feed with the eaton - it wasnt until i found a spare rocker cover that i did it - thus saving my original.

Don't see many doing it though. I quite like it staying there but on a show worthy engine bay it's got to go.

Chrome inlet and throttle body is awesome too. I need to do something with mine, it's the original off the GT engine so it's seen better days.

How do you get right into the crevices of the TB/inlet/whatever? Also what grade do you start with? I'v tried 80 grade ally oxide, but it either takes too long, or won't touch those deep pits you mentioned

Kiz you have got to be the most patient person ever!

I was just scotching some mirrors to etch them and was pissed off and bored within about 5 mins haha

i start with 80grit oxide. i know i seams like it wont do it but thats how its done- it takes bloody ages to sand it flat and remove all the pitting. on large items it takes longer as you are flatting a big piece- even if its flat you have to sand the whole face until it is level with the lowest pit. I've welded some pitting to save me work on flatting.

have to be uber careful on bits you weld as they show up- the filler rod will polish better than the casting.

to get in the tough small bits i use the same technique- through the grades of paper but with my fingers- most of the time until there so badly blistered i cant continue- its just the way it is.

before you start- think about it, cant stop halfway so if its to much work then send it to the powdercoaters!!!

That had nothing like the pits that a cast piece does, and i couldn't do anymore for about a week, when the skin healed over. You mentioned the welding bit before

yeah it was hiting the cover after i got annoyed and hit it before it was just growling at me for no reason lol
