bought some exips off matt for the tyres, as i had no useable wheels otherwise, 14x6j exips with 175/50/14s.

cars back home now on my drive and the install is a success, I'm really happy and the car handles well. the brakes could do with another couple of passes with the brake bleeder , needs the gear-linkage adjusting and the exhaust is knocking against the chassis tunnel, so probably needs twisting round.

the head is still smoking bad, far too much to have driven it to all types for its maiden voyage, but i knew it needed fixing before, but I've had a head refreshed with sodium valves and should have that next week, so ill be whipping the head off, and putting the new head on with the shrick cam. good times!

some pics of the end result

cool stuff mate, i like the stealth intercooler position!

Man, how much HP with the shrick cam then?

  • Author

Shrick cam already fitted in the current engine, so just swapping the cam and vernier into the replacement head, this was the print-out from the RR runs

will strip down the old head and figure out whats causing all the smoke-based commotion

Can only be the stem seals if its the head surely?

  • Author

aye thats what I'm thinking, one spark plug was oily (cyl4).

if i fit new valve stem seals, do i need to lap in valves, or is it just head off, bish bash bosh with some new seals and stick it back on?

Well, after you've got the head off and had the valves out, its always a good idea to lap them back in, doesn't have to be a lot if you number them.

Then yeah, quick change of the seals and put it back together.

Surely they the head doesn't need to come off? You can easily get to the seals with the cam etc out so long as you don't let the valve drop into the block :retard:

How do you suggest relieving the springs with the head still bolted to the block?

Edit: wrote the wrong words

i thought about that, and over some pub talk someone mentioned an air line tapped into a spark lead to keep the valve under compression and stop it from falling out.

no idea what compression it would need to be under and didnt fancy finding out.

ever done it yourself in situ?

That would be a massive task lol, How would you go about taking out the springs and retainers?

Ah yeah, forgot about the springs! :retard: I'v heard about the compressed air trick too. Never tried it either

Thought you had ;)

Intercooler is smart as you like. Well done on getting it all in that quickly.

The exips suit that down to the ground to be fair.

8-)

Cheers mush! Yeah i'm well pleased with it all. Sods law the oem boost pipe from intercooler thru the pass wing arrived today but ill use that for turblowey!

Yeah man the exips look well, I'm just not too keen on em. All the boys do howvever and they think imasaf auspuff. Gaylord feckers!

I'm not a fan of the exips if I'm honest.

But thats just in general, i think they look tacky.

Looks smart tho, love all the holes haha
