gearbox based fail

new box fitted this morning - 2am in progress shot

it blew a hole in it 250 miles before i had a chance to replace the box! good times.

mad props to nay for his help, 5am finishes ftl but egg mcmuffins n hash browns make i oh so worthwhile

anyway treated the car to a wash today, as it was covered with oily handprints everywhere!

You wouldn't suspect a thing really..

cant believe its been a year since I've owned the peril!

had it in for mot on saturday only failed on 5 things

- washer jets not clearing screen effectively (need a new washer jet as one of the nipples has snapped)

- no horn mechanism (no horn push on the momo)

- exhaust insecurely mounted (getting new hangers welded on saturday)

- both rear wheel bearings - excessive play (been replaced around 5 months ago so will nip em up)

passed all emissions bar hc level.

smoke test fine

co - 1.21%

hc - 15XX iirc its gotta be 1200

so will stick 145 jets in.

all in all I'm tres pleased

this pretty much sums up the Problems i will have at mot time, bar the horn.

yeh i knew it would, I'm surprised its stayed for nearly 8 months with the exhaust hangers that were actually for completly modified body mounts, of which mine are just standard.

yep i bloody hate nipples that just randomly fall off. shapeless moobs ftl!

and cheers sire, its a bit of a shame that I've turned it quite far from what it once once, and original proper rare yellow beasty, but it had to be refined to really be feasible for doing circa 1k a week now!

done nowt on the mk1 mate, gay innit! if the lads aint coming over for a drinking sesh tonight then I'm gonna fit the steering cowling, momo wheel, wire up the harness pre-tensioners, fit some guages and rebuild the driveshafts.

Yeh you do boyo! The mk2 looks smart on the starlights, kinda modernises it but in a classic way (yes I know that makes no sense!)

badly needs some spacers on the rear, the tuck on et40 wheels is ridiculous, although it means it wont scrub when loaded!

its so wierd having a change of wheel, as I've had the oz's on it for a year now, and not ran any other alloys bar routays on various cars for eons!

i ken what your saying tho, g40 jon was saying the same, 90's specc'd it a lil!

Hugly corroded and leaking fuelpump, worse than my old pump, cable tied up.

Its still a nice car though, and he may have been genuine, i dunno i wasnt there when he bought the car.

I've always wanted a set of starlights, they look so hot!

Wow,what an improvement! Those chunky Minilite-alikes suit the hardcore rally yellow pocket rocket far better,Saf.

But everytime i see your car it does my head in how the front looks unfinished,so I've touched it up Commodore-64 style,to give you an idea what difference a lick of satin black and rallyesque yellow would make (ignore the side stripe,was experimenting and forgot to remove that one).

Look okay to me,but a good way of spacing these a little is to fit MK3 Golf rear drums. They're safer,fit straight on (You need to take the Golf stub axles but your handbrake cable fits),i was lucky enough to find a pair with good shoes and they were cheaper than spacers at a tenner!

I've already got a set of the passat rear drums on the mk1, only recently changed the shoes and cylinders on the mk2, but I'm planning on fitting the larger drums, next time i ever had to redo the rear braking setup. i got the rear drums in a GSF clearout brand new for pennies.

yeh the front annoys me a bit, keep thinking about painting the lower part of the grille and i do have the bonnet strip, it just needs fitting, one of the tabs broke off so i need to sikaflex it on, although once its set, ill never be able to fit it again.

quite like the side strip but i would have it under the rub strip.

been offered 230 for the starlites, without tyres, which means ill have enough for a pps subframe and i can stick the toyos onto the black driver steelies i have.

All right there mate loving your car and doing the same with mine :grin: just got my engine but was just wondering where you got your t-piece for the oil pressure sender take-off from as i need one??? we will have to see if we could get all of the mk2 16v's together one day, could be fun, loving your car.

it was off a g40, oil feed adaptor for the charger, but merlin motorsport and ebay retailers stock them, m10x1 fitting
