Friday evenings endevaours started late so ended at 6am, back on it the next day about 1 and we were on the road a few hours later, after some smoke fuelled adventures! some pics before fitting the ra

i find it interesting because its in a mk2 and theres no evidence of the front panel being cut, the rad looks mighty short and theres either no intercooler fitted, or a standard one has been mashed into place.

food for thought anyway!

ill take 25 quid for the bits, cost me 45 for the choke cable, throttle cable, 2 throttle linkage adaptors and the pedal adaptor

From what I can tell, there doesn't appear to be an IC. Wont do much for power, as intake temperatures will still be relatively high. The other option would be to use a charge air coooler that could be mounted on the inner wing of the passenger side. Charge air coolers are meant to be more efficient than intercoolers in terms of cooling.

I wouldn't like to comprehend how that charger would come out for a service on the above, either!

got a charge cooler, its still fitted on the mk3's bay at the minute, gotta take it out and fit it on the peril at some point.

I'm fitting an intercooler regardless, wouldnt want to run without one!

service the charger - drop the engine haha!

Drop the engine? Owwww hell no!

You can run without an IC and just run a charge cooler. Seen that done on Kam/Fluxco's Mark1 Derby G40, running the Rotrex charger. He resorted to that based on space issues in the Mark1 bay.

Certainly won't do it any harm running both though :-).

hmmmmmmm decisions decisions senor karlosfeatures!

Food for thought?

G40 engine in a mk2 coupe here. He might be able to give you some ideas?

Looks like his cooler sits behing the standard number plate location.... Not ideal but better than a cooler hanging out the front. If you could successfulyl relocate the plate without it looking naff?

Just brainstorming for you lol. Couldnt believe how small the IC was on my TDI until i took the bumper off and needed a magnifying glass to find it.

Yeah man I've seen that before, thats also another mk2 without any front panel cut out or removable section, which means servicing would be a mare!

Also not terribly keen on the intercooler positioning there either!

Found a couple of suitable looking intercoolers on ebay yesterday, just waiting to hear back the dimensions from the sellers to ascertain if they would be useful or not!

haha about yer tdi intercooler! will you need to get a bigger one when you uprate your engine?

what you on with this weekend? might try and get over!

No need to get a bigger cooler on the barge until up way over 150bhp and that would need a bigger turbo and a man size clutch which equals muchos dollar. I will be happy with 140bhp from the TDI.

I would remove whatever makes servicing the car easier. Unless you are going for a show bay which i highly doubt then who gives a funk as long as its nothing structural. How much different is the mk2 bay to the mk3 one? Is the crossmember sat where the pipework and cooler would go?

already removed enough to fit and remove charger, will be getting a cut out of a mk2 front panel, so i can make a removable section, ala standard mk2 g40's, ill get karlos to paint it up and rivet my identification plate onto the section.

the mk2 pays a good couple of inches shorter, which means you cant get the intercooler fitted in the regular location (just in front of the charger and intercooler)

you and i both know I'm not doing this to have a show worthy bay, thats not really my steez.

140bhp and bags of torque should do nicely sir!

Saf u amiture u need my skills to complete this beast ! Haha get it done lad !

Dragging your arse with this saf  was the lift pump any good.

Still amassing some parts like.

Peteg40 was a true hero and sorted me out a perfect intercooler for the job so ill be fitting that tomorrow along with fuel pump assembly and lines.

Might see where I've got space for the charge cooler and get the boost guage and bits fitted!

Fuel pump loom should be with me next week thanks to big burt!

Also cleaned das peril for the first time in 8 months!

Also upon stripping the interior and carpets to lay the fuel pump loom, found a load of surface rust under the rear bench as it was sodden. Props to biglou for the wire brush steez and to karlos for the holesaw flex.

Removed a shitload of sound deadening too as it was soggy and weighed a tonne

i have been following this for a while but not posted. the workmanship looks very good and can't wait to see videos of embarassing bmw's etc but please for the love of god get the rust sorted on the front, then it'll be the sex.

Front Panel & Rear Bench is being resprayed when its back on the road and I can get it down to a friends bodyshop.

Rust and looks really dont bother me, and my prep and painting efforts this year will be concentrated on the mk1, as I want that in a booth for the end of summer.

Workmanship is pikey haha =D just the way I like it, will try and get a video this weekend en route to All Types, complete with smoke-screen!
