speedk youve got the uber rare side strips too, checked out the original dealer bill and they were an extra cost about 39 quid back int day!

Well got to brecon and back, did 170 miles in the polo and was only 12 minutes late for the mot.

heres the hit list!

2 Front tyres need replacing - swapping with mk1 golf steels & tyres

[electics]

horn faulty - was beeping if you pushed down on the steering column, only 2 or the 3 screens that hold the horn backplate down were engaged in the threading

indicators flash too quick - earthing or relay problem?

offside sidelide out front - replace bulb

wipers not working - working on intermittant now, a fuse had gone. but switching to always on, the fuse will blow even with an 16A. need to swap relay, stalks and then check wiring, replaced with another wiper motor and it did the same

no wiper washer fluid - check stalks, pump operation etc

main beams not workin - sorted, wasnt connected at stalk

offside sidelight out rear - replace bulb

rear reg plate lights not working

rear fog not working replace bulb

[others]

steering wheel insecure - was missing the washer behind the nut, sorted

top mounts have excessive play - nip em up see if it can eliminate most the play, otherwise lower

exhaust flexi needs replacing - will get a new flexi

exhaust needs new rubber in centre section - replace rubber

front discs need replacing - already got new discs

all four brake flexis need replacing - got psd braided hoses

rear beam bushes worn - will get new bushes from vw and fit onto a gt rear beam

engine idle too high - unblock idle jets and clean out carb, new contact points, set points and timing

innner sill offside rear corroded - get next door to weld

so not too bad, off to sort out the hit list today, will need to strip the rear beam and tank off to get someone to weld up the sill, at the same time i can clean the tank up, paint and underseal it (new one was fitted in 2000), and fit a gt rear axle with new bushes.

Hey guys,

Indicators flashing too quick was the relay, Swapped it with a known working one out the golf and they are wundaba now.

Weird thing is, one of the indicator bulbs stopped working (osr), so i whipped off the light cover and if i correctly seat the bulb it doesnt work, if i unscrew it out a fraction it comes on! gayorz

bit confused by some of his comments, as the number plate lights work, as do the sidelights.

as for wheels, not too sure yet, i have some super sticky 185/50/14s in the house so if i get hold of some decent 14 inch alloys illl pop them on there, if not ill just paint up some 14x6 passat steels I've got and stick the tyres on there

Good find mate, what engine you thinking?

give it a machine polish with some autoglym resin polish and a bit of a clean in the engine bay, going to get the petrol tank, arch and sill trim off the passenger side and ready for the guy next door to do the welding =]

as for the engine ash, I'm keeping the HK i think. I want to keep it as original as possible really, i mentioned that i wanted a single light grille but karl said i had to keep the twin fog jobbie as its got a red stripe trim.

probably just lower it 70/60, and stick some 14 inch steels with 185/50s dunlops I've got, and clean up and paint parts on the engine, its had a cambelt, headgasket and clutch done twice in its ownership at around 50k and 106k and its on nearly 120k now so should be good for a fair while.

still gotta sort out some running issues, it wont idle at cold so i think the autochoke needs adjusting or replacing, i might see if a certain someone wants to sell thier weber 32/34 dtml

Yeah i vote keep it standard too 8-)

Original is the new black

looking good.. not a nightmar fail sheet either. sure you'll have it sorted asap.

by the way i got a box of mk1 golf relays in my garage, so probably got an indicator one in there if you need to replace the one you borrowed off your golf.

standard bar drop, wheels and 32/34 dtml sounds the way to go for me. i had a hk with that carb on my mk1 golf and it was a lot of fun.. revved to an indicated 90 in 3rd (4 speed box) without running out of steam. no rev counter so no idea what rpm that was, but pretty sure it was way above the standard red line!

when you gonna have the car back in Manchester.. will pop down and have a look.

got a flexipipe you can have

I really want to moan at you like the rest of these old farts to keep it standard too :-p but I'm a idiot for some go as you well know... Did I hear G40 Turbo lump? :paranoid: If this is true, our polos shall marry when I get my TT lump haha

More mission pics (aka the back of a car)

Bet you got loads of looks on that journey :-D

I canny keep up with you guys and your Polo's. Seems to be loads of mk2's cropping up at the moment.

The yellow is nice for a change. Nothing wrong with standard (I am an old fart).

I've just fitted a single light grill and added the stripes myself with a black badge as my twin one got smashed. I'll get a picture up soon...

Check this thread for pierburg issues... obviously a manual weber will solve things too

cheers dude, I've got a box of spare relays at the unit, I'm probably just gonna be at mine in the evning prepping some castalettes so if your free and wanna lend a hand feel free, i think I've got some at the unit but any spares would be hand =D

chazbot the legend that she is has agreed to sell me her castalettes which will be painted white and wrapped in some super sticky dunlops and I've also aquirred through her, a weber 32/34 dtml with k&n filter, so the HK can scream like it should have done from factory!

probably wont be able to get to the mot'r next saturday, but if i do, then it may go to bvf but itll definatly be coming up to manchester, depending on how things pan out i may have to borrow you to drive either the golf or the olop back =]

got a flexipipe you can have

nice one, is it in good nick bloodclart? if so and you can drop it with char or in d towns by friday trhat would be wicked otherwise ill just order it from gsf or th elike

i know i know but I've already ruined some may say a series 1 golf gti and this coupe s is rarer than that in rally yellow, so bar reversible mods ( and face it who wants poop old standard suspension or even new standard suspension in this day and age ) the weber, white castalettes, a 70/60 drop and a nice stainless full system and painted engine and id be a happy boy

Bet you got loads of looks on that journey :-D

too right, id look over and see someone smiling and then beep randomly from the steering wheel and the car would jolt off cos it was idlingt at 1700 and would jolt away when you set off, wasnt helped by poop front tyres!
