It is just a quick homologated polo 6N that's driven fast by a friend of mine and I thought I'd share with all the polo friends in here. If you don't feel impressed since you are experienced with racing take your sarcastic posts elsewhere...

What gearbox was he using ? Sounded like a straight cut dog box.....

Didn't sound like a 1400 16v either. What had been done to it ? Can you remember ?

Problem with the 6n's is that there isn't much out there in terms of proper race / fast road / suspension setup, particularly rear arb's....

from memory, the only rear arb's for 6n's are made by whiteline in Australia (correct me if i'm wrong)

What's wrong with racing lower power cars? I fancy giving mine a go on time trials just for fun but if the power-snob brigade is going to be having a go at me I might not bother.

Nothing wrong with lower powered cars, i've been running mine with 65bhp for the past 4yrs and managed 2nd/3rd overall on occasion against much faster cars.

As for the gearbox, the challenge cars had an optional straight cut close ratio box, with a choice of final drives.

It was 1.400 16v and during races his opponents where constantly sending the judges to measure the cubic capacity of the engine . I can give you a lot of the engine specs although some secrets are left untold.

On the first video the car has the OEM gear box and on the second he has a custom gear box with a very long first gear and quite short ratio for all the other gears.

The problem you mention with the 6N is so true since it wasn't considered a race car and lots and lots of hours went on trying and developing the cars suspension setup and chassis in order to go around corners like this. My friend is an excellent driver (a bit risky), and this car won two times the Greek championship :) against Peugeot 106 rallies and Citroen Saxos that where considered the classic small racing cars.

I totally agree with you mate :). The driver of this polo owns now a Golf 5 gti with almost 350hp and still misses all the fun he had around local tracks with his 6N.

I'd be intererested in what suspension setup he used. ARB's (custom built etc)

I'm forever trying to find a way of getting my 6N to be a better handling car. Short of spending £1200 on some KW Variant 3's and an uprated front arb which I dont think a fwd car needs, i'm looking at getting this whiteline rear arb from Balance Motorsport

No idea, some bloke from Finland bought what was left of the VW Racing challenge car packages.

As for suspension - I'll probably be getting a whiteline rear arb (heard very good things about them for the lupo) but my suspension will be based on the group N gravel setup (but cheaper!)

As for the willy waving power freaks who claim to be into racing and building race cars - you'll get better gains from lightening a car than beefing up the power - for every 10kg's lost you gain the equivalent of 1bhp. A friend of mine competes in the toyota sprint series in a 1.0 aygo - it's hilarious seeing his tiny little hatch beating supras and celica gt4's

YOUR REAR WHEEL.... it r producing mass amounts of lift!

Needs a smoothed front end and, debadged grille, dish and lowering...
