Boot lock and connecting rod - GT Coupe

The connecting rod (between the boot lock and the boot catch) is a little bent out of shape, meaning that I don't really know and can't work out how it all goes together. Need to get the boot opening without crawling through the car for the MOT which is iminent. So a plea of help for someone who has a close up pic of the assembly or lives near Reading for me to take a look?

The lock end, the bit that the bar attaches to, should this just swing in the breeze or should it be under tension from a spring or something?
