Engine: 1991 G40 with 62k on clock. PSD toothed belt kit, newman cam, chipped, stage 4 charger, 250cc injectors, 1.8T interooler, mocal oil cooler, magnecor leads, k+n 57i, 4 branch manifold, fk stainless system,

Suspension: -60mm springs and shocks

Brakes: All G40 spec; calipers, Goodridge hoses, greenstuff pads, ebc discs, rear drums

Wheels and Tyres: Toyo proxes 195/45/14 with opel manta wheels

Exterior Styling: removed strips from side

Interior Styling: G40 clocks - with blue and red led lights, chrome handles

ICE and Security: pioneer head unit, jbl speaker in standard dash pod

I had owned several vw's (mk1 golf 16v, 5door gl, mk2 golfs) before purchasing this coupe s a few years ago. I bought it off ebay for a conversion as I had already purchased a 58k G40 engine with g/box, clocks and loom. Coupe s engine had approximately 90k on clocks at the time and the car was solid so I was pleased with my £450 gamble! It took over a year for the conversion to be completed as it was done in spare time at my mates garage and as we were pretty new to this - we stumbled upon a few problems

The engine has been in around 7 months now and I have not experienced any real problems in the 3.5k miles I have covered. I travel through A-roads to work and the polo has proved very reliable and covers ground well!

It is going into the garage this week to be de-arched, smoothed and resprayed in the original silver. I am also putting 8x14 black BBS wheels on it this week - again with the toyo's as I have been impressed with the amount of grip.

The next plans are then to fit coilovers, get a full remap, get a new back box - as the letterbox is a 'little' big and ugly?! and retrim the interior - with a couple more speakers as the lonely JBL, although good - cant compete with the whine of the charger! I am also thinking of M45 charger, port and polishing the head, lightened flywheel, clean up the engine bay and more...

I'll post up some more pics as things get done

So what where the troubles that you encountered on the conversion?? Did you fit the G40 clocks into the coupe S dash or did you swap the dash for the mk3 polo one??

What BHP is it running roughly??

Top drawer, plans sound sick too.

From Leeds too!! Nuts!! Was the engine local sourced one?? Sounds like a beast. If you get to dub pres i might have to pay you to take me for a spin. I had a GT mk2 which i loved so this is like my dream car.

Space was a major issue as bay is a few inches shorter - so i/cooler, oil cooler and rad are very cosy!

G40 clocks are in the mk2 dash as I prefer it to the mk3 one. Me and my mate did the blue and red lights - photo doesnt really do it justice as its my phone!

The car still needs to be set up properly with a better ecu - I've been in touch with polo pp and I haven't been to rolling road so dont know exact bhp figures. Engine was bought about 2/3 years ago from ebay - I think it was in leicestershire.

I got my bbs fitted today and had tracking sorted, will post pics when I get home.

I'm in Crossgates Leeds - you? When and where is dub pres? I might come along.

The info on this site is not up to date but you will always see when its on if you look on the local meets section on here or on edition 38.

Be good to see the car there. I prefer the mk2 dash too but i was always told that the mk3 clocks would not fit. So when i put the GT engine in my old mk2 coupe s i just used the mk2 coupe clocks. Suppose you will easily top the mk2 clocks with that in the bay though.

MrP on here had red LED's in his mk3 clocks and they looked sick. Pics never show how well it looks.

Love the car though and well done on the conversion looks purposeful

Wiring was a bit of a pain but I had full G40 loom so not that bad really - it does suprise a few people and is fun to drive!

Awesome work! Agree with demolover top choice of dub for me, looks very cosy in that engine bay. Presumably you don't have to use the G40 clocks? It would just run off the speedo at a ton?

Only critisism from me would be, with running a square front plate you should get rid of the rest of the rectangle plate recess on the bumper
