Lowering springs are there for a reason. They ain't any shorter than normal springs! Cutting your springs would make them shorter than what's required for your shock, which can't be beneficial.

Thats BULLSHIT mate.....safer like fuck it is, that would be why its an mot failure to cut the springs would it, cause its safer???

it would be far more dangerous, the coils on the lowering springs are tightly wound so that the compression is alot stiffer, if you were to cut the coil out of a standard spring then compress it to the point you would the 40mm lowering spring....either your going to have a hard crunch and shortly followed by a snapped spring or if the shock fully extends due to going over a speed bump or hump bridge too fast then the spring will unseat itself......

I've been running chopped springs five years,you've never claimed to have done,you clearly can do nothing than spout personal idealism from a source you dont even know the origin of,you're just being skeptical and saying what "you're gonna" do. Its un-experienced scaremongering on the back of your unknown agenda.

One coil off makes more sense than a spring three coils shorter,has been safe for me,has passed various MOT's,and that is events tried and tested.

cut one coil out of mine during the week

as said its more sense than a lowering spring half its length , doesnt come loose when jacked and I've no idea how the mot would tell once the end has got dirty again , if people are cutting std springs in half then they should know better

i might do this, do you have to take the coil off the shocker or not ? could i jack my car up remove the wheel and go at it ?

jacked mine up...spring clamps on , 3" cut off wheel to slice the spring

needs to have the clamps on or the spring will crash down once its cut

Since you use an ultra thin disc,have someone spray a thin jet of water at it to prevent it overheating,wrap something butch around the next coil so you dont catch it,and do this with the spring secured in a vice.

You dont cut more than a coil.

You cut exactly the same both sides.

You cut only where the next coil is the same pattern - you cannot cut a concentric coil (so from the bottom of the one pictured,not the top).

Whip the wheel off and go at it with a hacksaw,and you could end up loosing your hand.

Remember this is a compromise,not a breakthrough answer - Its best to use new shocks,and you'll only go down about 20-35mm. If you want 60mm then you'll have to use shorter shocks,and proper kits are available for just 150 quid.

Ahh this old argument. I've never had any problems with cutting springs, its always been a shite ride. But I've never crashed because of it.

few apologies in order on my part. Been a little stressed this past few weeks and have somewhat been a little disrespectful to afew members on here. I'm a recently a new member to the club and have no wish to discruntle longer standing members such as mikey and prankstar. Members such as yourselves have been knowledgable and more than helpful to lend a hand to myself when i have needed it. I still dont agree with yourselves on this matter, but none the less respect your opinions and experience and responded somewhat discracefully to your advice to fellow members and for that i give my apologies and hope that no hard feelings will be held.
