What grinds your gears when driving?

I can see why lorries overtake each other, but there should be designated spots, especially on dual carriageways, its a right pain having to sit behind them mile after mile!

nah hgvs should stay in the fooking inside lane where they belong!

penis! remember without wagons you get nothing!.. besides if you actually read your highway code you'll see thats where all vehicles belong.. (the outside i think is what you're referring to) ... 'always keep left unless over-taking'

... so no the middle lane dosen't belong to you!

thats the stupidest thing i've ever heard, how do you propose you designate a spot where lorries can overtake? So basically you are proposing that one lorry stops and pulls over so the other can overtake it?... i think they're called lay-bys!

inside outside, you know what i mean

are you the spokesperson for lorry drivers then?

1) HGVs trying to overtake each other on the motorway, forcing everyone else to cram into the outside lane.

Oh so hgvs aren't allowed to overtake each other then? ..i'm guessing you've never driven anything larger than a car then?

i was gonna reply with that :-)

It's not a question of whether should be allowed or not, but of the huge impact an HGV drag race has on other road users. One HGV in lane 1 doing 56mph being overtaken by HGV in lane 2 doing 56.00001mph forces everyone else to squeeze into the outside lane, do it on a large scale on a busy 3 lane motorway like the M6 between Birmingham and Manchester and it causes serious congestion with no one travelling faster than 60.

why does every topic on this forum turn into an arguement

EDIT: chavs who drive past my house as loud as possible 24 fucking 7

everyone has to have their say, and one person cant accept another's opinion, so end up with tempers flying about the place.

Who died and made you king of the highway then? Hgv drivers have as much right to over take on Dual carridge ways and motorways as you do, Be patient and wait until hes over taken the other lorry, its not bloody hard. Also 9 times out of ten, they will be doing the speed limit when over taking.

Do they fuck have as much right to overtake when they are within a couple of mph of each other. If they took 10-15 seconds to overtake I'd maybe let them off, but minutes at a time just to overtake. Causing congestion. Which causes accidents!

congestion causes accidents!?? Does it bollox, it's the impaitent tits who cant drive that cause the accidents

Yes congestion causes accidents. Not that it should - but because people, as you say, can't drive. But it's the HGVs taking so long to overtake that instigates it all! It IS dangerous and stupid! Fair enough if one is going 5 mph more than the other, but when it's like half a mile per hour difference, it's just fucking idiotic!

I am not one to get wound up about anything, i'm probably the most laid back person in the world, but this really fucks me off!

What with all the HGV hatrid...You wouldnt go ANYWHERE with out hgv's how you think petrol gets to the petrol stations!?

Also most 'trunk' running trys to happen at night so they dont block up the roads too much! also so they dont get idiotic car drivers who speed up and slow down 15 times a min, hit the brakes everytime they see a car 1mile away riding the brakes!!

It's not all HGV hatrid. 99.9% of HGV drivers are fine. It's the cunts that take minutes rather than seconds to overtake, as previously stated. Everyone who has stood up to defend HGV drivers, that's fine. I think everyone knows how stuff gets around the country.

You'd think if they were that much of a professional driver they'd realise that holding up an entire motorway isn't the best of ideas. It's a punishable and possibly endorsable offence in most of the rest of Europe and should be here.

A few minutes!? Not like they take 10minutes to overtake. Get a fucking grip. Accidents are caused by impatient drivers like your self who think they're king of the road.

But what about when i get (I'm a hgv driver) some nice person in a car in the middle lane doing 55/56 and for that simple fact i cant over take the lorry on the inside people dont take that into account and tbh you'd be suprised how often that happens!!

Think people need to relax and chill out somemore...end of they day they only ment too be doing 70 anyway...not that big of a drop...

You can get to fuck with your smart arse comments. At no point did I state I was king of the road. I do not think I am king of the road. (Probably the only BMW driver that doesn't, but that's another story in itself) I'm not that bothered about the trucks overtaking really. What I'm bothered about is the fact that somebody not paying attention could crash into the back of me, because of some idiot thinking that HE is king of the road, and really NEEDS to get past the lorry in front doing 1 mph less than him!

As for the 10 minute thing... Maybe not, but it causes 10 minutes worth of congestion! Do people actually realise how dangerous and stupid it is holding up two lanes of a 3 lane carriageway, doing 15 mph less than everyone else!?

I really, really would be surprised if the police did anything about you staying in the inside lane at 50ish mph and undertaking a car. In perfect weather conditions, a car doing 50 mph is as much candidate for being pulled over and given a ticking off as much as someone doing 90.

But yeah I agree with chilling out. I don't agree with the 70 down to 56 thing though. It IS a massive difference. It's an hour off of a long motorway journey and that's actually the difference between falling asleep at the wheel and getting back alive. Maybe I just look at the big picture too much, I don't know.

Guys guys guys!

look at it from the lorry drivers point of view, He has a job to do, and if he is on a 10 hour journey an extra 3 mph he can do by going past a slower lorry means he gets an extra 30 miles! IE it takes him half an hour less to get where he is going. half an hour saved from a few minutes of overtaking.

Oh and also all you guys who get impatient about it, your stuck for a few minutes, how would you like it if you were stuck behind someone for several hours doing less speed than you want to/can?

Motorways get congested anyway with or without lorries, look at the motorways on a weekend, lots of them are jammed up with people going away!

I'm not a lorry driver but i bet they get a lot more shit from car drivers than you think, its like someone coming in your office or wherever and ushering you to do whatever your doing quicker because your in their way, your gonna think they're an arsehole!

people in faster cars. :(

1.0 power here...

Don't be a muppet arron, of course that's not what I mean, just meant a long stretch of road of something like that, when did I ever mention lorries pulling into lay-by's to overtake one another...

Like when you have crawler lanes on single track roads like A69?

after driving back from Loughborough in the pissy rain...2 more things need adding:

- silly fuckers that think their silver/light coloured car has a giant flashing beacon on the top which excludes them from turning on their lights when you can hardly see the person in front.

- moronic idiots that simply dont know how to drive in poor conditions

- idiot that still tailgate people when its piss wet through...seriuously suprised there wasnt an accident yesterday

- people who use their brakes far far far far too much... was like a mobile disco at some point.

But what about when i get (I'm a hgv driver) some nice person in a car in the middle lane doing 55/56 and for that simple fact i cant over take the lorry on the inside people dont take that into account and tbh you'd be suprised how often that happens!!

thats exactly the shit i'm talking about!.. the stoopid fucking middle lane driver! There's so many more of them about too. I do about 250 miles a day and i can guarantee that I cant do more than 5 miles on the motorways without encountering at least 1! There really is no need to be sat in the middle lane when there is nothing next to them on their left

A lorry pulled out in front of a lad who was following us back along the A1, it generally did take about 5 minutes for the lorry to get past. But anyways, surely the lorry getting overtaken can slow down a couple of MPH, since the faster one cannot go over 60. I'm not a HGV bitcher, i see their point of getting there faster.

Overtaking lorrys is a bit of a ball ache. I see the neccesity for it but sometimes it goes too far.

I propose a 'turbine boost' button on the dashboard that allows them to do 62mph for a period of 3 mins. They get one of these every hour. haha

I hate driving behind people who dab their brakes all the time..

On the motorway you should barely need to touch the brake pedal, yet some people hit it all the time causing the cars behind to brake etc.

Shouldn't need to touch the brakes to be able to keep your distance from the car infront, but some people constantly switch between the accelerator and the brakes
