I've got a remote locking kit for my polo, and there are different sets of instructions depending on the type of central locking fitted to the car. What type is fitted to a 6n as standard? Either:

Type 2 Negative

Type 3 Plus

Type 1 Pneumatically Driven

Type 8 Plus Driven

Type 4 Plus Driven

Type 6 Negative (ground driven)

It looks quite complicated to fit, how much do you reckon someone would charge to fit it?

its not difficult atall

the central locking wires will be in the loom coming from the drivers door and running down the drivers side sill

alternatively you can make all the connections at the central locking pump in the boot

here are the cars wiring colours

Car lock open (UNLOCK) grey/black connect your white/black from your kit to this

Car lock close (LOCK) grey/red connect the white from your kit to this

connect the yellow and the yellow/black and the red from your kit all to a permanent 12v+ supply

connect the from your kit to earth

thats it job done

Are they the only wires I need to connect? There's about 10 coming off the control unit. Where can I find a permanent 12v supply in my boot?

red wire at the central locking pump

you will probably have 2 brown wires aswell for the indicators these just need to be connected the the indicator wires in the tailights

they are a black/white and a black/green

Cheers :) I'll just insulate any other wires coming off it. Is it ok to use scotchlok connectors? I got a bag of them included with the kit.

i would not reccomend scotch blocks

i always solder my connections you know then that you have a good connection and its not going to come apart

just noticed that I've got a green wire as well, which isnt mentioned in the instructions anywhere. am i ok to just insulate this? hopefully everything will work without it..

yes just wrap it in tape

ok, I've connected the lock/unlock wires, and earthed it.

for the 12v power, i dont have a red cable going to the cl pump. theres a black/red one, and one which is mostly red with a strip of grey. + 2 brown ones. which do I use? ill upload a pic in a sec.

Got the multimeter out and both wires gave me a reading of about 12v. Does this mean I can use either? :s

For anyone wanting to add it to a 6n 16v in future, you can use either the red/grey wire or the red/black wire as your permanent 12v.

Does anyone know if there are immobiliser transponders in the original keys and can they be transferred to the new flip keys?

Mine was an older model which they dont seem to sell anymore. That one should do the job though.

Yeah the original keys have transponders in. All I did was take one out of my spare key and superglue it into the new one, because there was no slot to hold it. The key with that kit might have a slot for the transponder though, so you might not have to glue :)

I connected the kit up to my indicator wires last night. All works perfectly now :)
