hello all!

can someone please help me?,

I'm trying to find out how to lower my 1993 polo (mk2 facelift?), the back suspension looks easy enough to do, but the front looks a pain, the front shock absorber incorparates the steering rack track rod end and the bottom of the shocker looks to be part of the hub? ? (and i cant seem find anyone selling stiffer shocks and springs that will fit my car?)

can someone please help me? ?

Its piss easy, almost easier than the back. remove the strut and spring, unscrew the cap that holds the shock, tip out contents into bucket (outside preferable, and dont get it on you as it stinks), clean up the inside, drop new shock in, screw cap back on, replace spring and then fit strut.

Job Done.

If stiff is what you want then get a phillJ kit off here, nice and stiff.

PS: if you get a different kit and find the shock itself has some movement inside the strut then undo everything and drop a 2p coin into the strut and that should stop any unwanted movement.

its not that easy, you have to undo quite a lot of bits on the front to get the strutts out, but that said i've done a few cars completely on my own so its not that hard :-)

There are a few kits around if you look, i've got one made by Weitec all depends how much you want to spend. Phil's are cheap and cheerfull but i found it a bit harsh and yet 'bouncy'.

I find the fronts really easy - i dont remove the strut,i withdraw/replace the damper through the hole in the turret. And i use molegrips to remove the castle nuts,by doing it when the car is still on the ground so there's no spring resistance against the nut at that point.

Get yourself a Haynes manual.

Is your Polo a squareback or a coupe? If it's a squareback you'll have problems with the back arches with any wheels wider than the standard steels. I found that out the other day.

mines a square back n I'm down 80 at front and 40 at back (top notch on phil jay kit at rear) on 13" superlights i had major scraping! filled the damper out with bump stops and haven't had much trouble since.. only can do 2 up tho heres a pic of mine if it helps..

are those superlights mini wheels?, they look awesome!, what is the complete size of them please?

thanks mate love them .. yea theym 13" by 7" wide not sure on the offset tho.. they have a bit of poke to them, u'll be fine on the front with 13s but might have a bit of scrubage on the back.. fill the dampers with bump stops and u'll have no problems. makes the car stiffer on the back aswell :)

WOW! , thats exactually how i want my car to look! ! , so are you saying the car sits on the back bump stops all the time?, (do the new lowering shocks and springs come with bump stops?, as my original ones are very worn out) or could i get some new ones from somewhere?

as urs is a coupe and has round arches i cant seeing ther bein much problems. but if there was and you wanted to fill out with bump stops, best off gettin polyurethene ones.. you can buy them from deemon tweeks but not that cheap, yes they sit on the bump stops all the time and makes a little squicking noise but better than hearing scrubbing noises

no prolems mate, yea u can get the cheaper version to powerflex but u'll have to shop around for them
