Fitting bike carbs onto a mk2/3 & 6n

Featured Replies

Can anyone sumarise the dimensions for a homemade carbie inlet manifold for a GT?

Head plate Thinckness... "Which will be mounted to the head and will be welded to the tubes"

Ideal Tubular length... "between carbies and head"

Bore of tubes...

Be a great help?

no, no and no.. you dont cut/bend springs... lots of people seem to like stretching there springs out (idiot superbike owners) thinking it will help with things... as far as springs go.. you want to

  • Then bigger, from a 600-900cc,though that's not to say bigger is better universally. They have vaccum-operated flat slides, which govern the throttle dependant of what the engine can draw at any time,so

8-10mm plate thickness which means if it warps when welding you can just give it a quick skim, make the ports the same size as the ports on your head, and possibly taper them down to meet your carbs

as for runners, inlet tract length is debatable and i doubt anyway can give you the perfect size without testing on a flow bench. plus dependant on the port size and spacing of your carbs, you may need to turn down the runners at the carb side and angle ports 1 and 4 to meet the carbs

hi guys I'm selling my mk2 breadvan its done 24k and it has zxr bike carbs on it with a facet competition fuel pump and a fuel king regulator. it needs 100 spent on the engine to get it running properly as it needs a tune and the jets reducing. i need to get rid of it quickly. just woundering if there is any interest for a 90% complete spanking motor.

cheers

will those cbr600 carbs (as pictured on previous page) run on my 1.3gt strait off the bike? just to get me to bogg brothers

or do i need to adjust the air fuel mixture?

thanks

gaz

you should adjust all the idle screws to the same level and check the butterflys are all syncronised at the very least.

I've ran mine as came off the bike bar setting the idles screws 2 1/2 turns out, tinkered with a few other bits when i was setting the timing, theres a air/fuel mixture on the carbs which i turned to get it to idle around 950-1050rpm

which ones are the idle screw's?

sorry i know nothing about bike carbs at all hate bikes and steir clear of them if i can lol

thanks

gaz

I've been thinking about this for a while but what sort of bhp would there be from a mk3 golf ABD on bike carbs i guess the easyest way would be to use a GT head and the CBR 600s, i guess it wont be as fast a a GT with this set up but could be quite cool?

cheers.

Ok guys been Reading all this info for a while and I think I'm going to convert my 1.4 8v aex (is it moi or spi???) to bike carbs now I am going to use the t piece method for fueling etc but I wondered how could i keep my Standard immobiliser and aftermarket alarm after ripping ecu out! Is there a way of maybe running the mk2 ingnition stuff along sidethe ecu? Or do I rip it. Out and put an aftermarket immobiliser on? Security of my car is quite important tbh as I don't live in the best neighbourhood!

why the fuck are you sticking them on your car then. if you dont know what an idle screw is, they arent for you. if you dont have the thirst for knowledge and find it out for yourself, even when its in this thread, or you could go do some searching for bike diagrams...

why would an ABD/GT hybrid be slower than a GT with the same carb setup? :retard:

your problem there was the word "Guess". assume make an ass out of you and me...

as said before most people here have been runnign them on mk2/3s without immobs, and therefore your a pioneer. have a go, see what happens and then let others know if you feel so inclined

personally id rip the lot out, and go for aftermarket security, as you will have made your own loom, you should be able to install your own alarm

^ cheers for that i tought i might have to do that, not a problem tho, cheers anyways!

look i no what an idle screw is i aint thick and I'm a mechanic just dont no which screw it is on bike carbs weber 40's need that yer but i hate bikes and dont work on them cos bikes are shit

why would any one who works on cars no were the idle screw is on bike carbs any way? and on every carb design their in differnt places i just dint want to adjust the rong screw and fuck up my carbs

I've had cbr 600 carbs on now for about 2 weeks now, running resonble, athough I'm not running a vacum advance dizzy still on the standard one. i have a vacum dizzy from a mk2 polo coupe along with all the wiring and neccecerys. But when i tryed fitting it, it would have it, the offset on the pin that locates in the cam isnt the same as the standard, with I've told would throw the timing out badly. i dont Know if its because its on a gt engine, which have the different cam to the usual mk3.

any answers, is there more than one type of vac advance dizzy? or is it me not thinking straight.

coss its a cheap way of making more power why else

I'm not trying to funny or owt dude, but youll just hate them when they go wrong because youve not read up on them and wont have the foggiest. i would have been lost without reading on bike parts catalogs and weber manuals when i first got hooked on carbs because they are the same as the poopbergs or the k-jets i was familiar with.

anyway do some reading up, get some knowledge and then be buzzing when somethings up with your carbs and you can tinker with them yourself.

trust me dude, if you dont know where you idle screws are before youve stuck your carbs on, then your going about it arse over face

iv had plenty of experience with weber 40's and yes i will be reading up when they are actualy on the car

but i only need to set them up so it starts and runs as I'm having them set up by john sleath race cars as he had the fastest road legal car in the country for a few years and is always willing to pass on advise

plus he only lives down the road from me ;)

those are inter changable you just knock out the pin that hold them in and swap them around

good luck finding your idle screws then ;)

those are inter changable you just knock out the pin that hold them in and swap them around

you can, but i've tried and its a pain in the arse

the dizzy of the right is actually from a mk1 seat ibiza and allows early HK engines and the like to run electronic ignition

Cheers for them carb threads mate, they're a good read.

Max

its not the idle screw i need lol that is done with the screw thing on the end of the cable it is the mixture screw i needed to find and have now found it ;)
