Fitting bike carbs onto a mk2/3 & 6n

Featured Replies

Doesn't really matter as long as it times up to where you want it.

Sure it wasn't lean because your sensor was after the leak? Lol.

Must admit mine feels rich and the only change is exhaust

no, no and no.. you dont cut/bend springs... lots of people seem to like stretching there springs out (idiot superbike owners) thinking it will help with things... as far as springs go.. you want to

  • Then bigger, from a 600-900cc,though that's not to say bigger is better universally. They have vaccum-operated flat slides, which govern the throttle dependant of what the engine can draw at any time,so

Nah had the plugs out too and temp gauge kept rocketing when cruisin. Had to keep changing down on hills and using more throttle than I normally would. Also th pops and bangs on the over run were silly. Lol.

Hi

I am going to be fitting bike carbs to my 1.0L MK3 I am planning on tunning them up myself. Do you think it is posable to set them up over a weekend or will i need to get it done professionally.

Thanks

Michael

I think you can get it running safely over a weekend yes. Depends, I did my friends car in a day, but we have wide band AFR gauges for fuel monitoring

ok. I am going to borrow some Bike balance gauges from a mate. just didn't want to fit them if there was no chance of getting it running ok.

Thanks

Balancing them is the least of your worries.

They're setup for a motorbike. Not a car!

Getting them to run is easy. Getting them to work under load is another challange all together :/

Mines probably setup pretty rich compared to most peoples.

Also yet to understand how people can run 145's with a 1.4 16v as mine was a bit lean on 160's haha

my 16v was rich on 145s

Mad ain't it lol. Even with the larger displacement of the 1600 the 16v has so much more valve surface area, you'd have thought would need to be richer.

How do you know was rich?

Just a Thought :)

I don't have a AFR gauge but i can borrow a VADCOM scanner. so if i left the ECU and lambda connected does anyone know if the diagnostic plugs under the Mk3 dash would tell me the AFR?

Nope.

And it's narrowband anyway so wouldn't be much use.

was double the limit on the test machine at the mot lol, also it smelled of fuel every now and again. wasnt majorly rich, but then i bought the 145 jets as i wanted to be safe as i knew i would give it some stick

2000rpm under no load is barely anything though. You can be rich bottom and end lean top still.

There's more than one fuelling circuit in the carbs, isn't just a case of changing a main jet

Does anyone know what size jet to run on a 1.0L? there lots on here about 1.3 jet size but not for the 1.0

I am going to use Mikuni carbs with a 34mm bore off a 400cc. I was going to use the standard jet size from the carbs and change if nessasery.

Thanks

It changes with the carbs, other mods even changing the exhaust will mean they need to be re-tuned.

I run 180 jets which are HUGE, but I'm using what are supposed to be ZZR600 carbs (bike shop is suspect there 1200) and they run fine.

Best idea is start with the stock ones and then see which way you need to go.

Harris: what you count as rich? AFR at idle on mine is now 14.5-15.0, cruising is 13.5-14, power is 12.9-13.5, overrun 15.5-16, my plugs look perfect.

(over run with loose downpipe bolt 18-22.4 (lean glaze on plugs):lol::lol:)

Mine idles about 14:1 when it's HOT, longer you sit for it kinda gets richer due to heat soak.

Flat out mine sees about 12.3:1 dependent on weather, cruising along sits about 15:1, light load about 13.2:1 IIRC.

Kinda varies with throttle position and gear and rpm and such, but it holds a flat 12.5:1 if you're on it, probably be a bit leaner but yeah, it seems pretty reliable so far.

Yours changes with weather too? I though it was my imagination.

mine used to be all over the place until I blanked the secondary airs off, came down 45 main jet sizes and it holds a much smoother AFR

Is that all you did though? I remember you had shims/no shims/secondaries blanked off, etc to get it right.

How'd you blank them off though?

Yeah bare messing about but just upjetting it ran ok tbf.

Can't even remember what it's set to at the mo lol.

I use blanking caps which are found on some carbs from factory.

Well got bored so i had a look at my carbs and started to give them a strip and try get them to a base tune ..

First off

CBR600carbs

How do u get the needle out of the diaphram to adjust the circlip ?

Going to drill the main jets too 145 and twist the tune screws 3 turns out.

What others have to be drilled etc ? Any change to pilot jets ? any change to main jet holder ?

With the set up i have stated above, what circlip would i need to clip it on to stop it running lean..

Please correct me on any of my mistakes, still learning and any advice will help me along the way .

This is for a 1.4 AFH btw..

Cheers.

turn it the other way round, the round part in the middle is threaded. screw a bolt or scew into it and pull.

I shall have a look tonight, Thanks riccc :)
