Fitting bike carbs onto a mk2/3 & 6n

Featured Replies

Was chatting to someone yesterday, does auto grass racing I believe but has chucked a bike engine in an MX5 for shits and giggs, but also plays around with carbs.

He's got a couple of those racing flat slide jobbies Ceri <3's reckons they're awesome and very tuneable, just shit on fuel, I guess because they're not CV carbs. Was also chatting about needles and I'm considering buying a dyno jet kit and seeing how I get on with their adjustable needles, as they seem to make a massive difference on response

no, no and no.. you dont cut/bend springs... lots of people seem to like stretching there springs out (idiot superbike owners) thinking it will help with things... as far as springs go.. you want to

  • Then bigger, from a 600-900cc,though that's not to say bigger is better universally. They have vaccum-operated flat slides, which govern the throttle dependant of what the engine can draw at any time,so

Hahaha, ye they are a bit fuel heavy, something that is attributed to the lack of metering and the accelerator circuit tuning.

Just read this whole thread as I've started collecting my carb setup and it's really given me a better understanding!

Just a quick one can anyone tell me what these carbs are off?

DFEADA67-68B1-4096-AC0A-8170350758EF-325

Any chance of a wide angle shot. Easier to tell if we see the whole carb

Only one I have at the moment as I've only just got em, definately 600cc

75707231-379A-4C1F-A272-75EE6C11C4F8-325

Jordan, they look like they're off a Suzuki Bandit GSXF600, a set of them has passed through my posession at one point.

There the same carb as mine so could also be off a Kawasaki.

Mine has a centre throttle wheel ddo.

Yeah my throttle is on the left, was told they are off a zx6r but then seen on anothe thread they aren't haha.

Last one...I will be using the t-peice method, but I already have a Y peice, will this be ok?

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at doing an engine conversion for my mk1 polo.

I have sourced a donor car for a 1.4 16v AFH engine.

Just wanted to check what carbs you would recommend for this engine set up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Akis

should give you loads of information and also links to people's build threads who have done it previously..

I'm thinking about using bike carbs on a 1ltr mk2f spi engine. would there be any benefit to using a gt head for this?

oops silly question obv 1.3 head wont go on a 1.0 block. the gt cam is useful tho no?

1.3 head will go on the 1.0 block.

GT cam will be useful yeah.

Is there even a difference between the heads? Cant remember now.

Double valves springs on most gt heads and higher lift GT cam thats all thats different to a standard 1.3 head

i am going to be bike carbing my polo currently running a 1.0 spi but i have a gt engine to put in and run it on bike carbs how would i go about the spi wiring ? does every on just rip it out? , is there any other things that will be running thru the spi loom that i will need ? as i dont want to rip it all out for there to be something i need on there like temp sensors ect, i am aware or the mk2 loom and coil and dizzy est ,

anybody got any photos of there bays and fuseboxes to show how much wiring they have deleted

mechanicly i can do all the converstion and carbs its just the wiring i am not clued up on but its all a learning curve ;)

also wiring the bike pump up can i use the wires for the original pump to power the bike pump ? or will i have to wire it to igniton ? i will also be using a fuel cut of switch ( interia switch ) do i wire this just before the fuel pump ?

probs very simple questions for most people but i would rather ask as wiring is not a strong point of mine

any help would be great

cheers guys

I think the inlet valves are about 2-3mm bigger, some have dual valve springs and the inlet ports are slightly bigger but i think other than that its the same as a 1.0L head.

I just sacked off the engine loom that has all the injection stuff, and replaced with a carb'd mk2 loom...and cut out stuff I didn't need like Mani heater etc

I've read this thread before many times before someone jumps down my throat, however i need fast help.

Had problems with the carbs after about a week of running them, found an air leak on the mani, so sorted that last night, got it all back together and got it started, now a lumpy idle for bout 30 secs and then dies.

My dad reckons it could be the carbs needing balancing and has offered to help me this weekend, however he tunes actual bikes, not bike parts on cars.

Anyone else reckon it could be this? Secondly would you recon i plug the vacuum dial gauges into the vac on the mani? Just worried about the lack of vac to the dizzy causing it to not give us a proper reading.

I want to know as much as possible so i can actually lend a hand, rather than my dad not know and me to shrug my shoulders

Cheers

Got CBR600 FX carbs.

Think it was harris.racing who spoke about when you blow into one of the pipes the sliders go up.

Same thing happens on mine. I actually have two of these pipes. One on either side, each of which controlling two slides.

If dirt/derbis go into them, they could end up somehow finding the way past the slider and into the engine because when you blow, also put you are cheeky on one of the venturi It feels like the air does pass through.

So I was thinking of putting a small air filter on the pipe. Then I thought well: When the engine sucks, not only does it open the slide. It's also taking air from this pipe. So it is as if someone is blowing into the pipe at all times.

So can't you just re route these pipes into the cold feed induction box. You will get more air and it will be cold, instead of putting on a cone filter and having hot air from engine bay?

Hope harris.racing see's this. lol

Right got a few questions,

Its the fueling part of my conversion...

AFH on cbr600s dropped in a mk3 ex-mpi,

So I'm using T piece method.

10 - 8 - 10 is the size, Now i have the return and pump connected.

The carbs one wil have an 8mm pipe going to them also.

does this sounds right?

Finally, the brake servo hose is what mm?

As i have a 8mm hose tail on my inlet mani for the servo.

Lastly from the dizzy with the flying sourcer does a hose go to there?

Thanks

yes

The "Flying Saucer" is a diaphragm that is operated by the vacuum in the intake manifold.

The runners on your inlet manifold need to have a "take off pipe" , these need to be joined together, and linked to the flying saucer to operate the vacuum ignition advance system.
