no, no and no.. you dont cut/bend springs... lots of people seem to like stretching there springs out (idiot superbike owners) thinking it will help with things... as far as springs go.. you want to

  • Then bigger, from a 600-900cc,though that's not to say bigger is better universally. They have vaccum-operated flat slides, which govern the throttle dependant of what the engine can draw at any time,so

surely your float levels will be all wrong with your carbs at that angle??

^^^^^^^^^^

mainly though can i use any silicone hose to join my carbs to the manifold I've made??

max

Carbs are perfectly happy at that angle, bogg bros themselves made the inlet.

Use the strongest hose possible due to them holding the carbs, try to use the stock rubbers if possible

Bogg Brothers didn't realise that the polo engines are cantered forward. Which is why they put the bend in the inlet manifold. When I received mine I spoke to them about it and the agreed that straight off the head would be perfect, so they re made it. But the carbs work at some extreme angles so shouldn't effect things much.. Either way they sound great!!! :)

Hi I've just purchesed a set of R1 bike carbs for my mk3 polo gt I'm having a custom inlet manifold made what else do I need 2 fit them 2 my car and I've been told that I could need new manegment if so could u recomend some please thanx

read the thread its all here.

r1 carbs are way over sized for the 1.3 engine, you need to source some cbr600 or some kawasaki 700 carbs. getting the r1's to run right will be a right ball ache especially if they are newer ones as they are a very basic throttle body that uses management to control the fueling

Ant, next time your in the area (at the wifes) give us a bell so i can have a ride in it.

Tried pm'ing you mister, but your a popular man and your inbox is full, hit me with a text

  • 2 weeks later...

bump for newbies.

On another note, about to start design on a OEM look bike carb manifold for mk3 polos. will keep people updated on it.

Hopefully should have the first design by the end of next week.

i have more questions.. and thought i would post them in here to save anyone asking them again..

i have just brought my fuel pump and pressure regulator and the fuel pump needs a threaded joint either side for the fuel line to clamp onto, and in the instructions its saying to use a 74 micron fuel filter. First of all i cant find one of those fuel filters anywhere and the pressure regulator i have already has a filter built in just wondering what everyone has used for that or have i brought the wrong things?

Also while I'm here my car used to run twin 40s on it just wondering if these have the same pressure etc' and bike carbs

You have,as you dont need the regulator. This has been covered in this topic, and the link to the main topic on it is in my first post in here - page one.

The filter though,i dont think is covered - simply place a normal inline filter before the pump,as factory standard. They cost like two quid from any motor factors.

You'll need the pipe fittings for the pump though, which i think you can get from Rally Design.

Also while I'm here my car used to run twin 40s on it just wondering if these have the same pressure etc' and bike carbs

No,less pressure - around two psi. Thats why you dont need a regulator, but simply a factory swirl pot or T-piece - using the return line back-pressure with the latter.

Here's a view of the T-piece method - pump the fuel straight back to the tank but for a T-piece,the carbs get a leak-dosage off the resulting back pressure..

Here's a pic of my fuel pump. The filter is just a fitting,as I'm using a normal inline filter before it. Note sprung clips for the pipe - they maintain pressure on the pipe, unlike screw or pinch type fittings, which can leak once the rubber pipe memorises. Also note the ignition amp behind it,and the pump's inertia cut-out safety switch behind that.

Thats it,no regulator, though my 1.6 16v could empty the carbs with the old low pressure road pump with this method. But that one is plenty enough with smaller engines.

hi iv been trying to spot were most of you are are getting the vacuum from for the servo especially on your fabricated manifolds thanks

hi iv been trying to spot were most of you are are getting the vacuum from for the servo especially on your fabricated manifolds thanks

The info for taking the vac direct from the carbs is here somewhere, though i cant remember exactly where i wrote it.

This one is for the distributor, you dont need it if the dizzy is adjusted to suit or you're running a map,but you could use the original fittings if you drill them out bigger, having also drilled the bodies, and probably get enough for the brakes.

Dizzy.jpg

Course,I'm sure the manifold would be best, but you want to use all four as opposed to just one imo.

ok cheers il cross that bridge when i get there thanks. also are abu head inlet ports oval or round like the afh 16v?

I dont know,i think only the AEE ports are round.

The AFH ports are not at all round, more like the shape of a cloud on an old skool TV weather map.

I had to do extensive grinding and porting to fit the round flanges to the head.

oh cool yeah i no the shape your on about ..

if you are doing the AFH route, i used the original inlet manifold, covered further back in this thread.

You can see what Bogg Brothers did for me on the end most inlet

hi uk guys wounder if u can help i have bought some zxr 400s for my mk2 breadvan and fitted them with my custom manifold i connected the fuel inlet and the fuel outlet too the carbs and turned the engine over but no fuel was coming out the jets and i cant understand what I'm doing wrong as i just cant get it started. I'm not mechanic just willing to learn and wanted a project. btw its the 1043cc engine that they are on

this might be a simple question or I'm being a total prat lol

and trying to learn what I'm doing while doing

cheers

How is the fuel being pumped?

How is the fuel being pumped?

its connected to the original fuel pump it goes fuel in filter pump then fuel in on the carbs

are the 1043 mechanical fuel pump off the camshaft? i am not sure but i thought they didnt have an electrical pump like the injected polos. the SPi and MPi models.

you should be getting fuel through but what kind of carbs are they? pump fed or gravity fed? i dont know if this would make any difference but just something that came to mind.

if you disconnect the fuel pipe at the carbs then crank the engine do you get fuel coming out? (use a bottle to catch fuel)

stick up a pic of how you have set it up and ill try my best to help out as I'm sure others will.

ok mate i will take a pic tomoz and post it up and yes its a mechanical fuel pump runnin off the camshaft as far as i know. i know the fuel is gettin in to the fuel rail of the carbs as wen i take the pipes off fuel comes out of the pipes i think the jets maybe blocked but like i said i dont really know alot about the carbs i just know they are kawasaki zxr 400cc 32mm so if i take them apart I'm not sure what I'm lookin at really lol sorry
